About the role

We’re looking for a Property Appraisal Claims Consultant to join our growing Property team

As a  Property Appraisal Claims Consultant,  you’ll provide expertise and support to the Property appraisal and Property Claims Specialist (PCS) team by giving advice to management, providing expertise to assist in the settlement of large and complicated claims files, organizing quality assurance activities, as well as assisting in the training of claims professionals and special projects.

What you'll do here:

Act as an advisory resource for management team for technical quality, complaints, and training. Participate in the review and update of claims standards and procedures by ensuring that they comply with our contracts and the applicable legislation and case law. Provide technical support to major loss appraisers and property claims specialists on the outcome of the estimate and provide recommendations to managers to drive operational excellence, and indemnity control. Collaborate with management to design, develop and facilitate technical claims training initiatives and programs relating to process and workflow changes, Closed File Review and Interval File Review Work with the different regions on streamlining the Standards & Procedures. Assist in managing the appraisal process for commercial and personal property losses. Conduct audits of claims files to ensure compliance with company standards, reporting results to the management team and using results toward efforts to improve Claims functions. Provide consultation on large and complicated claims files, including technical guidance and advice to staff, assessment of exposure and facilitation of Alternative Dispute Resolution as needed. Support operations with respect to Standards & Procedures upon activation of the CAT Plan. Engage in regional and national special projects to examine the Claims function and develop ways to improve both processes and personnel to better serve customers, solve systemic problems and meet company goals. Assist in collaborating with vendors to ensure timelines and budgets are met. Responsible for auditing estimates and work performed by the contractors/restorers who are members of an Intact network of partners to ensure compliance with standards and policies, as well as handle complaints regarding the quality of the work, the costs, and the restoration methods Attend meetings, work collaboratively with key partners and other stakeholders as required.


What you bring to the table:

University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role. In-depth knowledge of property insurance products in both personal and commercial lines. Diploma in building appraisal and/or a relevant combination of education and experience.  Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial and personal lines property claims related large loss appraisal. In-depth knowledge of the Xactimate estimating software and other relevant applications. Training experience is considered an asset. Excellent research and writing skills. Strong analytical skills and insight. Can lead meetings and projects. Effective planning and organizational skills. Bilingualism in French and English would be an asset for this role.
