Purpose of the Role:

As the Laboratory Chemist, you will be assisting current porous polymer synthesis efforts by conducting laboratory experiments, helping synthesize monomers, polymers or other porous materials, operating lab instruments for characterization, and analyzing data. You enjoy working in a wet lab and being part of a fast-paced team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

You have a BSc./ Ph. D. degree in Chemistry or a related field with experience working in wet labs, preferably in organic/polymer synthesis and characterization. You have excellent knowledge of materials science, organic chemistry, porous material and post-modification of polymers. You have experience in laboratory experiments involving multi-step organic synthesis, polymerization, sample purification and characterization, crystallizations, and other lab techniques. You have experience in documenting experimental records and summarizing results. You have excellent knowledge of WHMIS safety guidelines and comply with health and safety policies. 

What Success looks like in this role:

You will assist members of the sorbent development team in the synthesis and characterization of porous materials, especially on organic sorbent development (polymers, …) synthesis for carbon capture application. You will characterize materials using lab equipment, , FTIR, TGA, DVS, NMR, microscopes, etc., and perform scientific data analysis and interpretation. You will conduct pre-industrial scaling up organic sorbent synthesis works based on bench-scale results. You will prepare documents, reports and presentations to communicate your lab findings. You'll maintain lab equipment and troubleshoot or report on malfunctions and ensure compliance with laboratory health and safety guidelines.
