About the role
The Manager, Sustainability and Solutions is responsible to oversee the Solutions and Material Management team. This team is of critical importance as it controls the movement of waste streams in, through and out of the Canadian processing facilities. This team also leads the search for sustainable partnerships, new technologies, new vendors and waste management solutions.
This position will:
Interact with the operational teams to ensure the safe and compliant performance of day to day activities.
Be a liaison between Sales, Covanta Facilities and the Customer to help solve problems that result from the approving and processing of profiled waste.
Identify, review and approve third party disposal vendors regarding disposal profiles and solutions.
Lend expertise to the team and ensure that all wastes are handled, stored, treated, mixed, blended, bulked and disposed of in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
Research emerging and developing technologies and prepare investment summaries.
Develop long-lasting and profitable relationships with third-part vendors for required disposal and transportation services.
Create a sustainable business model supports a circular economy
Essential Duties
Build positive working relationships among all stake holders to ensure excellent client satisfaction by Manage the material approvals team who perform the proper review of wastes that are to be received, transported, brokered, processed and disposed of to ensure safe and compliant operation.
Evaluate diverse types of materials regarding safe and environmentally compliant processing and identify the characteristics of waste materials.
Develop a network of complimentary and sustainable relationships that support the needs of CES.
Identify disposal outlets and treatment technologies for different waste category, create outbound disposal profiles and assist in creating suggested sell prices.
Negotiation of disposal pricing and vendor invoice review and challenges.
Collaborate with operational Sales teams.
Act as a subject matter expert in support of waste management efforts and sustainable services.
Assist with the creation of, or create, complex project plans.
Research disposal technologies and prepare feasibility reports related to the implementation of new technologies within the CES MPF network.
Provide strong communication skills across various departments and levels of the business.
Conduct audits of 3rd party disposal sites using established audit documents and protocols and complete Vendor Qualification Reports
Performs other duties as required including but not limited to directly interfacing with customers, external sales, internal teams and 3rd-party to aid in the materials management and approval.
Travel to MPF’s, EfW plants and CES-Canada customers on an as needed basis to establish and build key relationships with the goal of ensuring the proper approval, acceptance and processing of CES Profiled Waste.
Qualifications – Education and Skills
Undergraduate Degree in science (biology, chemistry, environmental science) or engineering (environmental, chemical, mechanical, etc.) or similar degree.
Bilingual (French / English)
Proving DEI leader, dedicated collaborator and agent of change
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience.
Word processing, database, spreadsheet and power point skills
Advanced knowledge of Federal and Provincial / State Environmental Regulations, Controlled Substances Regulations, US EPA, DOT, MTO, Sewer Use By-Laws, Environment Canada, TDG and other related OSHA, ANSI, ASME and NPPA, DOT regulations, Clean Water Act and RCRA requirements.
Specific knowledge and experience with:
Hazardous and Non-Hazardous permits and reports, solid waste facility permits
Proven capability in communicating with diverse levels of regulatory personnel in different disciplines including air, solid waste, water and others as required.
Proven capability in communicating corporate messages to community groups.
Experience developing permit applications and/or negotiating permit conditions for new permits and/or modification of permits.
Works independently in any setting (home, office, boardroom, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and environmental rules, operating and maintenance instructions, environmental and safety regulations and other consensus standards, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Le rôle de Directeur, Solutions et Conformité des Matériaux est chargé de superviser l'équipe de gestion des solutions et des matériaux. Cette équipe est d'une importance essentielle car elle contrôle le mouvement des flux de déchets à l'entrée, à la sortie et à l'intérieur des usines de traitement canadiennes. Cette équipe dirige également la recherche de partenariats durables, de nouvelles technologies, de nouveaux fournisseurs et de solutions de gestion des déchets.
Le titulaire de ce poste devra :
Interagir avec les équipes opérationnelles pour assurer la sécurité et la conformité des activités quotidiennes.
Assurer la liaison entre les ventes, les usines de Covanta et le client pour aider à résoudre les problèmes résultant de l'approbation et du traitement des déchets profilés.
Identifier, examiner et approuver les fournisseurs tiers de services d'élimination des déchets en ce qui concerne les profils et les solutions d'élimination.
Apporter son expertise à l'équipe et veiller à ce que tous les déchets soient manipulés, stockés, traités, mélangés, mis en vrac et éliminés d'une manière sûre et conforme à l'environnement.
Effectuer des recherches sur les technologies émergentes et en développement et préparer des rapports d'investissement.
Développer des relations durables et profitables avec des fournisseurs tiers pour les services d'élimination et de transport requis.
Créer un modèle d'entreprise durable soutenant une économie circulaire
Fonctions essentielles
Établir des relations de travail positives entre toutes les parties prenantes afin d'assurer une excellente satisfaction des clients. Gérer l'équipe chargée de l'approbation des matériaux, qui procède à l'examen approprié des déchets à recevoir, transporter, négocier, traiter et éliminer afin de garantir la sécurité et la conformité des opérations.
Évaluer divers types de matériaux en vue d'un traitement sûr et respectueux de l'environnement et identifier les caractéristiques des déchets.
Développer un réseau de relations complémentaires et durables qui répondent aux besoins de la CES.
Identifier les débouchés et les technologies de traitement pour les différentes catégories de déchets, créer des profils d'élimination des déchets sortants et contribuer à l'établissement de prix de vente suggérés.
Négocier les prix d'élimination et examiner et contester les factures des fournisseurs.
Collaborer avec les équipes de vente opérationnelles.
Agir en tant qu'expert en la matière pour soutenir les efforts de gestion des déchets et les services durables.
Aider à la création ou créer des plans de projets complexes.
Rechercher des technologies d'élimination et préparer des rapports de faisabilité relatifs à la mise en œuvre de nouvelles technologies au sein du réseau Covanta Solutions Environnementales.
Faire preuve d'une grande capacité de communication entre les différents départements et niveaux de l'entreprise.
Effectuer des audits de sites d'élimination tiers en utilisant les documents et procédures d'audit établis et compléter les rapports de qualification des fournisseurs.
Effectuer d'autres tâches selon les besoins, y compris, mais sans s'y limiter, interagir directement avec les clients, les ventes externes, les équipes internes et les parties prenantes afin d'aider à la gestion et à l'approbation des matériaux.
Voyager au besoin dans les usines de traitement des déchets, les usines de production d'énergie à partir de déchets et les clients de Covanta Canada afin d'établir et de bâtir des partenariats clés dans le but d'assurer l'approbation, l'acceptation et le traitement adéquats des déchets profilés de Covanta Solutions Environnementales.
Qualifications - Éducation et compétences
Baccalauréat en sciences (biologie, chimie, sciences de l'environnement) ou en ingénierie (environnementale, chimique, mécanique, etc.) ou diplôme similaire.
Bilingue (français/anglais)
Leader avéré de l'IED, collaborateur dévoué et agent de changement.
Dix (10) ans d'expérience à responsabilité progressive.
Compétences en traitement de texte, bases de données, tableaux et PowerPoint.
Connaissance approfondie des règlements environnementaux fédéraux et provinciaux, des règlements sur les substances contrôlées, de l'EPA, du DOT, du MTO, des règlements sur l'utilisation des égouts, d'Environnement Canada, du TMD et d'autres règlements connexes de l'OSHA, de l'ANSI, de l'ASME et de la NPPA, des règlements du DOT, de la Clean Water Act et des exigences de la RCRA.
Connaissance et expérience spécifiques dans les domaines suivants
les permis et rapports relatifs aux substances dangereuses et non dangereuses, les permis relatifs aux installations de traitement des déchets solides
Capacité avérée à communiquer avec divers niveaux de personnel réglementaire dans différentes disciplines, y compris l'air, les déchets solides, l'eau et d'autres, le cas échéant.
Capacité avérée à communiquer les messages de l'entreprise aux groupes communautaires.
Expérience de l'élaboration de demandes de permis et/ou de la négociation de conditions de permis pour de nouveaux permis et/ou des modifications de permis.
Travailler de manière autonome dans n'importe quel contexte (domicile, bureau, salle de réunion, etc.).
Capacité à lire et à interpréter des documents tels que des règles de sécurité et d'environnement, des instructions d'exploitation et d'entretien, des réglementations en matière d'environnement et de sécurité et d'autres normes consensuelles, ainsi que des manuels de procédure.
Capacité à rédiger des rapports et de la correspondance de routine.
