Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES:

The Senior Business Analyst BI & FP&A is responsible for the development of effective & efficient business models & tools to aid in the analysis of the operations, introduce continuous Improvements to the budgeting & forecasting process including review of the existing tools used. The Business Analyst will be the primary liaison between the Finance team, IT and other departments that utilize financial information systems or data.  In this role, the Business Analyst will provide operational support to system users, participating in the planning, design, development, and deployment of Financial & Operational systems projects, and coordinating activities between Finance, IT, Applications & Program Management users.  

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

•    Developing and implementing ABM continuous improvement initiatives with respect to the finance processes with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
•    Developing business models, key business indicators, benchmarks to support business decisions, 
•    Identifying and prioritizing the organization's functional and technical needs and requirements.
•    Using SQL and Excel to analyze large data sets.
•    Reviewing and analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and developing strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
•    Knowledge of analysis and requirements and industry best practices (e.g. business process modeling, conceptual data analysis and modeling, use cases) and tools.
•    Compiling charts, tables, and other elements of data visualization. 
•    Understanding business strategies, goals, and requirements.
•    Planning enterprise architecture (the structure of a business)
•    Forecasting, budgeting, and performing both variance analysis and financial analysis.
•    Working with key stakeholders (system owners & data users) and other project team members to define, validate and prioritize system requirements.
•    Leading design sessions in prototyping new features or systems for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow.
•    Collaborating in the planning, design, development and deployment of new applications and system enhancements. 
•    Creating process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmers.
•    Coordinating and performing in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems, and other post-implementation support.
•    Providing orientation and training to system users for all modified and new systems
•    Working with Director, Finance to identify cost savings opportunities, and opportunities for efficiency gains in day-to-day operational activities.
•    Assisting with the accounting system upgrade
•    Developing and/or preparing specific financial analysis 


FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ACCOUNTING

•    Supporting the annual planning process at the program level (B/R/E/C/WC) 
•    Preparing weekly/monthly program forecasts (B/R/E/C/WC) & analyzing variances between actuals, forecasted & planned results.
•    Preparing & analysis of the weekly Quarterly Outlook/ Ops report & MBR specific to this business unit
•    Creating and managing detailed project information related to contractual schedule, scope and cost for submittal to program management. 

•    Maintaining the accounting records in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
•    Ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division, and that the financial reporting standards are applied consistently.  Regularly review policies and procedures with Manager, Financial Reporting & Compliance, to develop an ATS best practice approach for the financial management of the company.  
•    Reviewing and assessing areas of business risk within the division, and, working with the Manager Financial Reporting & Compliance to develop policies to minimize or eliminate that risk where possible.
•    Ensuring the safeguarding of company assets.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • A university degree or college diploma in business and/or accounting or equivalent business experience is required.  Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA) is also required.


Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of Business Analyst experience is required; preferably in a job shop manufacturing or construction environment using the percentage of completion method of accounting.  
  • Individual must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization both verbally and in written form.  Advanced knowledge of an ERP system (preferably JD Edwards) and Excel are required.
  • Tableau experience would be an asset. In addition, the ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a team-oriented work environment is mandatory.  
  • Strong analytical, financial reporting and accounting skills as well as a continuous improvement orientation are keys.  
  • Hands-on, detail oriented and able to consistently meet deadlines.
