Position
Senior Civil Engineer, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
Oversee the construction engineering and design management for B2Gold Nunavut, including design coordination, QA/QC, scheduling, tracking, reporting, and cost analysis. Mentor junior engineers in construction design, quality control, data collection, and reporting; Lead and update the project schedule, budget, and cost controls, aiming to complete the project ahead of schedule and under budget. Assist with geotechnical and concrete laboratory installation and operation, ensuring the QA/QC program meets design specifications; Ensure construction meets design criteria, technical specifications, and standards by coordinating with the Engineer-of-Record; Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases. Optimize equipment and laborer activity through effective planning and maintenance; Develop and update the budget file, participate in monthly reviews, highlight concerns, and compare material and project pricing to the original estimate. Identify, document, and track inconsistencies; Manage site contractors by following B2Gold Nunavut procedures, ensuring adherence to Health, Safety and Environment standards and quality workmanship. Conduct weekly meetings, enforce contract terms, administer contracts, summarize issues, draft communications, and handle invoice tracking and claim management; Manage the geotechnical laboratory and consultant to ensure testing complies with specifications; Support the implementation of a training program for equipment operators and EITs. Prepare and deliver presentations to site management team; and Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies; Communicate concerns to the management team.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
Seven (7) years’ civil engineering work in mining with experience in mine civil facilities, ideally in design and construction. Minimum of two (2) years overseeing the work of Engineers in Training (EIT) and engineering technologist level staff; Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng), Master’s being an asset; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist (NAPEG) or ability to obtain same. Professional registration for this role is mandatory; and Experience with cost and quantity estimation and design skills including basic embankment, road, and pipeline corridor design.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the annual salary for the role is $170,000.00
