Trotter & Morton Building Technologies is now looking for a Project Safety Advisor for an Commerical project located near Lethbridge Alberta in Chin, AB. This position will continue for approximately Six (6) months, with an opportunity for the contract to be extended.

This is an “Onsite” position that will be based in a construction site office in Chin, Alberta.

Roles and Responsibilities

HSE Documentation

  • Review and make suggestions to update HSE policies, procedures, practices, protocols etc. as required
  • Develop and roll-out safety initiatives as needed
  • Review and update Trotter & Morton statistics in Procore and Power BI as required
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable OHS, CSA, ANSI standards and administrative practices

Incident Management and Employee Rehabilitation

  • Collaborate with site personnel on initiating, developing and closing incident investigations and reports
  • Participate in managing the Return to Work plans of injured employees
  • Maintain and monitor incidents in Procore
  • Immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions or accidents to management
  • Review incident statistics and implement corrective actions as required in collaboration with site personnel
  • Identify improvement opportunities by monitoring workplace injuries and incidents and developing action plans

Project Planning & Maintenance

  • Participate in pre-job hazard assessments with the Business Unit and develop HSE documents including but not limited to; Project Safety and Security Plan (PSSP), Project Safety Analysis (PSA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA) as required
  • Participate in regular, daily toolbox meetings, weekly safety meetings, site inspections, FLRA review and other site activities
  • In collaboration with site personnel develop site specific safe work procedures/practices/policies as required

Training / Employee Development

  • Conduct employee orientation as required
  • Conduct training as required e.g. fit test, FLRA, Life Saving Rules
  • Maintain worker safety training records and organize training as required
  • Review and implement training requirements according to Trotter & Morton and local jurisdiction requirements

Corporate Oversight and Compliance

  • Participate in conducting compliance audits, including but not limited to the annual COR Audit
  • Participate in managing the company HSE statistics using the Procore and Power BI systems
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with employee records and business information
  • Ensure compliance to laws and regulations at Federal, Provincial and Municipal as well as Corporate levels

Leadership

  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with senior management, business units, business partners, other safety personnel and key stakeholders to achieve established goals
  • Communicate effectively and champion engagement in the area of HSE to lead efforts in creating a world class HSE culture
  • Participate in the development and implementation of safety improvement initiatives with management, the Projects Management Team, and Field Staff
  • Promote adherence to the safety management system
  • Participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee as required

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • Completion of or working towards an accredited Occupational Health & Safety Certificate
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is preferred 
  • Experience in a Health and Safety role, usually evidenced by 5 years of experience
  • Experience working in the construction industry is an asset

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License is required
