The Epidemiologist is responsible for providing statistical analysis, managing special epidemiological and other complex planning projects, maintaining local health and population databases, and providing expert advice regarding planning and research activities towards the identification of health system priorities and development of healthcare strategies to promote high quality client outcomes.

Here is what you will be doing: 

Responsible for the development of analysis plans and working closely with clients and stakeholders to gather and focus requirements.

Identifies, selects and uses appropriate analytical approaches that can be used in the development of the plans and other OH initiatives

Extracts, analyzes and reports on health data from a variety of datasets such as health administrative databases, census data and survey data.

Develops and maintains regular performance reports related to OH priorities and commitments.

Coordinates and conducts analysis of local health-care system based on provincial and regional data, community input and other sources to identify gaps and establish priorities.

Consults with external stakeholders to develop tools and resources for clinical and management decision support.

Responds to internal and external information requests related to demographic, population health and service utilization questions.

Provides analysis to support the identification of needs and service gaps, planning, priority setting and decision making

Works with diverse stakeholders to enhance information management at the practice and program level.

Leads projects and/or participates on teams or committees as an expert advisor as required.

Builds OH’s knowledge in the area of specialization through writing briefing notes, preparing recommendations, and contributing to reports.

Delivers presentations and transfers knowledge to others both within and external to OH.

Here is what you will need to be successful: 

Education and Experience 

Master’s degree in epidemiology, health or business administration, health planning, statistics, research or equivalent experience in a health care environment.

Demonstrated experience in decision support, technical research and the application of multiple planning and analytical methodologies.

Experience and knowledge using statistical, database and business intelligence tools such as SAS, SPSS, MS Access, SharePoint, FileMaker Pro, Crystal Reports, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s Intellihealth System or Canadian Institute of Health Information’s Portal.

Expert ability to select and apply multiple statistical and planning methodologies as appropriate.

Proven skill and success in project management involving diverse groups.

In-depth understanding of the Ontario and local community health-care systems as well as related stakeholders, programs and issues.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Other

Ability to communicate in English (oral and written) is mandatory and French is an asset.

Salary Range: $42.877/hour

Classification: OH EastRegion CUPE

Hours of Work: 35 per week
