Your Opportunity:

The Area Director is a key leadership role in the Capital Management Portfolio and reports directly to the Zone Director Facilities Maintenance & Engineering (FM&E). This position is responsible and accountable for leading an operational team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of FM&E programs and services in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services.This position coordinates the Facility, Maintenance and Engineering management staff embedded in the zone. The Area Director provides direct support and expert counsel to the Zone Director, FM&E and Senior Management Team on all aspects of Facilities Maintenance and Engineering. This position establishes and maintains positive relationships with key local, provincial and national representatives and health care stakeholders including government departments and officials in order to provide operational leadership to all related programs and services in the zone. The Area Director is accountable for divisional objectives regarding implementation, operational excellence, management and monitoring of zone and provincially integrated delivery of Facilities Maintenance and Engineering services and quality measurement programs in the most effective, leading manner. The Area Director will also provide coaching and development to those directly reporting to them to ensure appropriate succession planning.

Description:

Provides high level of leadership by ensuring the Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FM&E) vision supports the overall Capital Management (CM) and Alberta Health Services vision through effective communication, ethical decision making, and commitment to achieving established goals and objectives, ensuring outcome measurements and standards are enforced. Identifies key challenges and opportunities and provides leadership to support the development of innovative approaches in ways that enable the achievement of the vision and long-term goals. Fosters a high quality workplace with strong commitment to quality and process improvement and service focus. Ability to exercise considerable independent judgement and action when resolving problems with sophisticated hospital systems or equipment. Ability to simultaneously plan, prioritize and manage a variety of differing maintenance and operations initiatives. Implements and maintains the terms of the appropriate collective agreements and service contracts. As a member of the FM&E, CM team, will also be involved in the Zone strategic planning for the program with a focus on continual improvement. Identifies immediate maintenance and operations risk liabilities, oversees the development of corrective scenarios and amelioration costs estimates. Ability to work effectively within a multi-committee structure. Analytical skills to resolve technical problems impacting scope, schedule and budget. Ensuring building commissioning/recommissioning activities are carried out. Acts as a coach and mentor for their direct reporting line. Provides leadership for supporting the strategic direction of FM&E with a priority to support patient focused service and delivery. Required Qualifications:

Professional Engineer registered with APEGA, or 1st/2nd Class Power Engineering Certification, or Trades Certification.
