Job Description:

The Site HSE Specialist reports to Site HSE Manager and is responsible for the development, management and execution of Health, Safety, Environmental & Security within the confines of the site. Depending upon the needs of the site, this role will focus on Safety and Environmental initiatives. They support the site management team to foster a caring culture where safety, health and environment are ingrained as a core value equal to other business functions within the site. Partners with other key functions on initiatives including Engineering, Operations, P&O, Quality, S&F to develop and deliver site-based goals and plans. Effectively leads, coaches and develops operations line supervision to be effective HSE leaders/coaches in their respective positions

What are we looking for?

Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in science (ex. engineering, chemistry, safety, IH, is preferred. 1 years experience in implementing safety, environmental and/or industrial hygiene programs in a manufacturing arena. Strong safety regulatory knowledge and expertise required including OHSA, EPA and provincial regulations. Demonstrated leadership in driving a program/system of safety and/or environmental. Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis and Process Hazards Analysis desired. Must have a good working knowledge of safety, and health standards in order to conduct audits and perform evaluations. Ability to interact with site level manufacturing/business management, community, elected officials and non-government organizations as well as, state and federal regulatory agencies Strong written and verbal communication skills including a high level of comfort developing and delivering training and motivational presentations to all levels of associates is a must Development of digital tools is a plus (. PowerBI, digital forms) Recognized third party certification or working towards one (CRSP or CSP) is a plus.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Principal Accountabilities – Core

Ensure Site maintains continuous “audit ready” state of compliance with company and governmental HSE Standards. Responsible for the development, deployment of all Company HSE Standards as they specifically apply to the site.  Deployment of the HSE Pillar (Lean Manufacturing/TPM) activities and programs Maintains the onsite environmental program and updates according to Environmental Permit Compliance and Mars standard and schedule. Delivers training and coaching to establish clear understanding by all site associates on HSE expectations. Leads the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes at the site and drives for appropriate mitigation measures to lower associate risk. Ensures effective communication and understanding by all affected associates.  Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence.  Drives completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence are effectively implemented Collaborates with the site management team to ensure effective injury case management process.  Serves as the site level HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed Coach and mentor the site JHSC for improving safety and environmental performance. Execute HSE training for all associates and manage overall system to insure proper operation. Supports the Mars Global Security Program by implementing standards and best practices.
