The Health and Safety Coordinator assists the Health and Safety Manager who oversees all Health and Safety-related policies, procedures, training and programs at the Company to ensure all workers, managers, and the company are operating in a healthy and safe manner, and in compliance with expectations established by the Ministry.

**Responsibilities**:
**Health and Safety**
- Responsible for assisting in the creation of all internal policies and procedures relating to health & safety, reviewing and updating periodically to reflect legislative updates and recent events in the workplace
- Ensuring policies and procedures are communicated regularly to all workers and managers, and that all employees have access to updates policies and procedures
- Supporting Managers in the day-to-day management of health and safety violations, coaching managers on how to deal with employees and providing them with tools to do so
- You may be asked to conducting planned and surprise on-site visits to inspect the workplace and ensure all machinery, employees, and the workplace are not posing any hazards
- Assisting in the set-up of new project sites to ensure all required health and safety precautions are taken
- Maintaining a training matrix for all Rafat workers logging training programs completed, expiry dates, and outstanding requirements
- Staying abreast of all health and safety updates, trends and news, and incorporating best practices into the Rafat program
- Facilitating training programs for workers and partnering with third parties to provide other training programs
- Setting up new workers during onboarding to complete and participate in all required training and quizzes
- Maintaining an up-to-date H&S folder for each worker containing all certifications, training course logs and infractions
- You may be asked to Host Toolbox Talks on-site with workers
- Building strong relationships with Ministry of Labour representatives to reinforce the value that Rafat places on creating a culture of H&S
- Assisting in the discipline of employees responsible for H&S violations or infractions; working with Supervisors to issue verbal and written warnings, suspensions, or other means of discipline potentially resulting in termination of employment as deemed appropriate
- Working with the Ministry in the event of an inspection
- Logging and documenting all H&S-related activities and information to ensure compliance
- Assisting in the the Health and Safety function for snow and ice management services

**Claims Management**
- Assist Supervisors in the event that a worker is injured on the job
- Walking workers through the process and instructing them to obtain a Form 8 from their physician
- Submitting all relevant documentation to WSIB and partnering with the assigned Case Worker to manage the situation
- Keeping in touch with workers preparing to return to work; requesting and reviewing a Functional Abilities Form from their physician to understand and accommodate modified duties
- Partnering with Case Manager, Return to Work Specialist, and worker to organize their return to work and following up post-return to ensure their reintegration is smooth
- All claims management responsibilities carry through to snow and ice management services

**Required Skills**:

- Experience in construction or related industry a key asset
- Certifications in a variety of Health & Safety-related programs an asset
- An interest in Health and Safety and an understanding of its value a requirement
- Ability to develop strong relationships with third parties
- Strong communication skills
- Must be comfortable disciplining others when appropriate
- Must be comfortable presenting information and training workers
- Ability to work in challenging situations with adversarial personalities at times

Services include excavation, demolition, concrete forming/foundations, roadwork, site servicing, waste management, landscaping, and municipal snow removal.
