About the role
Location: ALS Environmental, Waterloo, ON
Shift time: Afternoon (2 PM - 10 PM)
Reports to: Inorganics Manager
This position is responsible for performing preparations, extractions, and analysis on soil and water samples.
Specific Responsibilities
Operate lab instrument /equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc; Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair as required; Perform sample preparation – filtration, screening, extraction, and digestion; Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc; Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.); Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation; General laboratory clean-up and maintenance; Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware; Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving; Monitor controlled equipment; Perform all required quality control procedures; Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT); Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must be capable of working with minimal supervision; Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team; Ability to work in a fast paced environment ; Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; Previous Lab experience of at least a year, full training will be provided.Physical Demands
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Ability to stand for a full shift; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;Working at ALS
