On behalf of our client, Qualico, we are looking for a Manager, Payroll & Benefits to join their team. Reporting to the Director, Corporate HR Shared Services, in this role you are responsible for managing all aspects of Qualico’s payroll and benefit functions. You will collaborate with leadership and HR Business Partners and act as a trusted advisor on both the administration and strategic direction of their payroll and benefits programs.

As the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, you will: Lead the Payroll and Benefits team, fostering a collaborative work environment and ensuring staff are cross-trained for mutual support. Oversee bi-weekly and semi-monthly Canadian payroll processing, conducting audits for accuracy and regulatory compliance, and leading year-end processes for fiscal audits and government compliance. Manage Canadian group benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, etc.) and act as the point of contact for disability claims, providing counsel and liaising with benefits providers. Collaborate with corporate and regional accounting teams on payroll setup, tax audits, and WCB reporting, and work with the US region on payroll and benefits practices, offering guidance and strategic advice. Liaise with HRIS, ADP support, CRA, Employment Standards, and Canadian Payroll Association to stay current on regulatory changes and improve performance and collaborate with HR management to resolve issues and enhance processes. Manage the relationship with the Benefits Advisory Firm to stay updated on regulatory changes and benefit design trends and develop strategies for best practices and optimal program value for employee retention and attraction. Ensure the preparation of all required government, regulatory, and other standard and ad hoc reports.
You and Your Experience: Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation. Degree/Diploma in Payroll Administration, or equivalent. Minimum 7 years of payroll and benefits administration experience in a supervisory position, preferably in a multi-jurisdictional environment. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential. Satisfactory verification of criminal record check. Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and PowerPoint), HRIS and Payroll software (ADP Workforce Now is an asset). Effective time management, communication and attention to detail skills.
