Halifax Public Libraries invites EXTERNAL applications for the 12-week placement of a full-time position for a Summer Youth Worker. This opportunity is funded in part by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Summer Youth Worker, you will deliver programming and community support in the Musquodoboit Harbour and Musquodoboit Valley communities. You will:Working with branch staff, assist with delivering summer programming, outreach visits, and community engagement for youth and all agesPromote library programs and services through fun activitiesPerform work duties in a positive and safe way and display safety awareness at all times.Depending on interests, you may:Plan program activities and crafts within established frameworks or in an area of personal expertiseHelp with creating kits, displays, promotional materials, etc. Check out materials and assist customers with self-check-outHelp process and shelve library materialsAssist customers in the use of library technology and personal electronic devicesHelp with other library-related duties

Completion of Grade Ten (10) or equivalent 

Read and write EnglishAdditional grant eligibility requirements: are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible)are legally entitled to work in Canada;are between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Canada Summer Jobs Grant work assignmentExperience with hosting events or working with youthBeing creative and artistic, friendly and welcome, and able to work both independently and as part of a bigger team.Access to reliable transportation
