About Athletics & Recreation:

Sport and recreation have the power to change people's lives and build communities of engaged citizens. The Department of Athletics and Recreation’s mission is to champion the development of the whole student through sporting excellence and active wellbeing. Through this, we empower our varsity athletes to achieve their full potential both athletically and academically. With our recreation programs we focus on active wellbeing as a learning strategy, providing opportunities for students to thrive socially, personally and at their studies.

In the last five years, TMU’s teams have achieved historic firsts for rankings and championships. Meanwhile, they have reached new heights for academic achievement, such as overall athlete GPA, while breaking records with volunteer service hours. As a result, TMU alumni are people who make a difference wherever they go.

TMU Bold operates 8 varsity teams on which 180 student-athletes compete nationally in U SPORTS, and an additional 3 departmentally supported teams which compete in the Ontario University Athletics Conference. 

The Opportunity

The Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for the physical preparation of assigned TMU student athletes, teams and external groups. The position will work closely with the Integrated Support Team and Head Coaches to provide expertise, guidance, and training in the area of physical preparation for TMU student-athletes and Varsity sports teams at Toronto Metropolitan University in order to enhance individual and team performance. They will work collaboratively to reduce the likelihood and aggravation of sports-related injuries by developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs and by providing expertise to coaches and student-athletes regarding conditioning tools and techniques. This role will collect and analyze relevant data to measure program effectiveness and to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

Completion of a Kinesiology / Exercise Science degree, or a related field. NSCA-CSCS (National Strength Conditioning Association Certificate-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or international equivalents (e.g., ASCA Level 2, UKSCA Accredited). A minimum of 3 years in high performance strength and conditioning training capacity. Practical experience in planning and conducting individual and or group/team personal training for example fitness appraisal, physiological testing, one-on-one programming and health and fitness counseling. In-depth knowledge on fitness and anatomy. Ability to develop and deliver world-class customized training plans based on individual and group needs. Knowledge of evidence-informed needs analysis for sports, teams and individuals. Knowledge of valid and reliable methods to monitor overall and individual effectiveness of training plans. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to develop knowledge and skills to engage with those of other cultures or  Vulnerable Sector Screening Check Required.
