DEPARTMENT: Graduate Programs, Goodman School of Business
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Temporary Part-time (September 1, 2024- December 30, 2024)
COMPENSATION: 150 hours nominally; Unit 3 ESL Instructor part-time contract positions are paid an hourly rate, as per the collective agreement.
JOB SUMMARY:
Lecture times: Mondays 1400-1700
The Professional Masters Preparation Certificate Program - Business Stream (PMPB) requires instructors for PMPB 6P23 (Reading for Business Purposes) for Fall Term. In addition to scheduled contact time with students, instructors are responsible for the preparation of weekly lesson plans, supplementary materials, tests, and assignments for their courses in accordance with assigned textbook and Goodman School of Business (GSB) curriculum. They are also responsible for the invigilation of the course final exam during the University exam period, as well as the marking and evaluation of student work, record keeping and attending meetings with program coordinator when required. Instructors are expected to work collaboratively with other instructors and to maintain frequent communication with program coordinator. Other course-specific duties as assigned by coordinator.
The current plan is to deliver this course in person in the Fall; however, an online section may be offered depending on student needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualifications for a new appointment shall be:
1. Master’s level qualifications in related areas ( Business Communications, English, Applied Linguistics, Languages). Although a complete master's degree is preferred, candidates with a master's in progress may be considered for the position.
2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching advanced reading skills to international students at the University level.
3. Successful record helping international students develop proficiency in their ability to read.
4. Must be knowledgeable about different strategies to build academic and business vocabulary.
5. Proven ability to teach critical reading and to assess critical reflections from students.
6. Previous successful experience teaching university-level reading using authentic academic and business materials and helping students become independent readers and monitor their own reading process.
7. Demonstrated interpersonal qualities that support international students’ course-related needs. Ability to communicate effectively and provide constructive feedback. Solid organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to keep accurate records. Ability to work collaboratively with other instructors and program coordinator.
8. Advanced competence in the use of email, Sakai, Microsoft Office 365, Internet, Wikis (websites that allow users to create content collaboratively), Lifesize, Turnitin, Digital teaching platforms, and multi-media equipment.
9. Members who have previously taught PMPB 6P23 successfully in the past are considered qualified.
