This may include but is not limited to: mobility support, personal care, communication support, social support, study skills, learning assistance, organizing finances, anger management, and conflict resolution. Will also support the instructor in modifying learning materials, material delivery and evaluation. Will liaise with the student’s caregivers, community network and the Accessible Education & Trainingdepartment. Performs other related duties as required. Functions and Duties 1. Supports a student(s) with special needs in or out of the classroom in the Accessible Education & Training class or in the SAME Program providing as needed some combination of:
- mobility support
- orientation support (for visually impaired students)
- personal care
- communication support
- social support
- study skills such as organizational skills and time management
- learning assistance
- finance management
- anger management
- conflict resolution

2. Supports the instructor with the modification of learning materials, material delivery, and evaluation such as:
- preparing modified materials for class
- meetings with instructor to review student needs and progress
- discuss with the instructor accommodations and modifications
- organize exam accommodations, supervise tests, dictate and or scribes tests as needed and mark test as required.

3. Functions as liaison with the student’s instructors, caregivers, community network and the ASE department to:
- ensure clear communication between student(s) and instructor(s)
- keep in contact with caregivers regarding student needs
- communicate with relevant agencies when necessary
- report regularly to the ASE department Chairperson.

4. Performs other related duties as required. Education and Experience Completion of Grade 12 plus graduation from a one year community college program in a related area such as a social services field. Up to and including 6 months related experience. Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of the issues related to students with special needs is required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide personal care. Preferred Qualifications The Department of Accessible Education and Training (AET) is seeking a non-regular part-time Individual Support Worker for the Vernon campus.

A minimum CEA or HSW Certificate is required in addition to 6 months of experience working with students with special needs. Desired Start Date 10/01/2024 Position End Date (if temporary) 01/24/2025 Schedule 5 hrs/week
Monday 3:30- 5:00 pm
Wednesday 1:30-5:00 pm Annual Salary/Hourly Rate $25.22 - $28.76 Appointment Type Support - Non-Regular Part-time Special Instructions to Applicants Shortlisted internal candidates must notify the current Support Staff Bargaining Chairperson and People Services if they want a Union Observer during interviews and the final selection of candidates.
