Overview

Games continue to evolve and push the boundaries of entertainment as we know it. The bar to deliver world-class games continues to rise, driven by advantages in better hardware and software capabilities. Along with optimizing game development engines, developing infrastructure and workflows for efficient remote and hybrid development, brings new opportunities and engineering challenges that all studios are facing today. At The Coalition Studio, through our work on the acclaimed Gears of War franchise, we are tackling these problems head-on by leading engine innovation, developing technical showcase technologies, and delivering world class workflows, tools and features that are adopted across the wider Xbox Game Studios organization.

As a Senior Systems Engineer at The Coalition, you will be a highly valued member of a world-class Engine and Game Development team. You should have proficient C++ skills, Unreal Engine experience (UE4), be comfortable with Perforce, and have a passion for problem solving. You are a generalist knowledgeable in areas such as Rendering, Systems, Audio, Gameplay and Animation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND4+ years of software development for modern console or PC games using C++OR equivalent experience. 3+ years’ experience in developing and optimizing multithreaded systems. Experience with the Unreal Engine.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent problem-solving abilities. Comfortably works with all disciplines found within a games studio. Experience integrating and supporting third party game technology SDKs. Proficient in Python or other popular high level scripting language. C#/.Net experience.

Responsibilities

Integrate new releases of third-party software with our current development branch. Consult with other Engineers on the team to create, change, adapt or refactor systems as required. Keep up with the upcoming changes and consult with other engineers regarding upcoming changes. Proactively work to reduce the need for engine changes (collaborate with 3rd party to get our changes integrated in the stock engine). Work with the rest of the infrastructure team to support and make the team more efficient. Profiling and optimization within these areas: low level performance, streaming and/or memory.
