Job Title: Livestock Labourer

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Livestock Labourer to join our team at True North Farm Ltd. As a key member of our farm team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our livestock.

Job Summary:
  • Develop and implement animal care plans to ensure the health and well-being of our livestock.
  • Perform daily animal feeding and watering tasks.
  • Monitor animal health and report any issues to the farm manager.
  • Assist with breeding and calving programs.
  • Perform general farm duties, including cleaning and maintenance of farm equipment and facilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and guide the behavior of farm animals.
  • Disinfect pens, barns, or poultry houses.
  • Handle animals safely and humanely.
  • Monitor animal health and detect any signs of disease or illness.
  • Organize tasks to accomplish the work efficiently.
  • Perform animal grooming activities, such as cleaning and trimming hooves.
  • Prepare a clean, dry area for cows that are calving.
  • Track and report on current feed inventory.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures.
  • Maintain financial and production records.
  • Carry out a pasture or pen breeding programs.
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed.
  • Maintain livestock performance records.
  • Maintain quality control and production records.
  • Milk cows.
  • Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs.
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens.
  • Maintain work records and logs.
  • Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock, and poultry.
  • Perform general farm duties.
  • Examine product for quality and its readiness for the market.
  • Write daily basic progress reports.
  • Set and monitor water lines, air flow, and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy loads and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors and have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and kneel.
  • Ability to work with animals and equipment safely and humanely.
