About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Canadian Regional Communications, this position is primarily responsible for providing external communications support and counsel for Cenovus’s Lloydminster operations. This dynamic role includes the development and execution of communications plans and activities that align with Cenovus’s business priorities. The successful candidate will be responsible for building brand presence in the region, supporting business strategies, programs and events, using appropriate communications tools and vehicles.

The successful candidate requires writing, communications planning and marketing/brand experience as well as the ability to build positive relationships with peers, senior leaders, executives, the media and key community stakeholders.

This position is based at Cenovus Place in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the Lloydminster area.

What you’ll do:

Anticipate and mitigate potential risks to Cenovus's reputation; working with the corporate team to promote and enhance the company's reputation as a responsible integrated energy leader.

Monitor regional issues and liaise regularly with your supervisor and Corporate Communications.

Develop external communications plans for our Lloydminster business and provide ongoing status updates and measurement of communications tactics.

Work collaboratively with the Lloydminster Regional Advisor for internal communications to ensure internal and external communications plans and messaging are consistent and aligned with Cenovus’s regional and corporate priorities.

Working with the corporate Digital, Brand & Content and Media & Issues Management teams, build positive brand presence and relationships throughout the Lloydminster community through a variety of communications tactics and engagements.

Build community understanding about Cenovus’s business through newsletters and events.

Support the roll-out of strategic/business plans and various initiatives through various communication channels.

Develop and/or lead the creation of content for social media and our corporate website in support of our Lloydminster operations.

Act as a member of the Crisis Response Team.

Work collaboratively with Cenovus’s Community & Indigenous Affairs Advisor in Lloydminster to support their engagement accountabilities, including regional community/social investment activities.

Assist with key regional events including community investment announcements, open houses and tours, as required.

Write and edit a variety of communications materials including communication plans, reports, presentations, news releases, announcements/articles, brochures, emails/memos, newsletters, speeches, and scripting for videos.

Perform other communications duties as assigned.

Who you are:

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or relevant post-secondary education in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism or related program.

Minimum of 5+ years of relevant communications experience. Experience in the following will be considered an asset:

Media relations

Marketing/brand and social investment

Government and community relations

Crisis communications experience is preferred.

Solid writing and editing skills with the ability to craft communications aligning the business need with company goals.

Demonstrated track record as a communications strategist and accomplished implementer of communication plans.

Proven internal and external influencing skills at senior and executive management levels.

The ability to establish relationships across the organization and to work independently.

Strong client service, interpersonal and team skills.

A confident presence and ability to clearly articulate strategies and concepts.

Familiarity with the energy industry and region is an asset.

Crisis communications experience is preferred.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
