RN (Consult Liaison) - TFT - Mental Health

Works with the consulting psychiatrist to provide assessment and treatment suggestions within the geriatric psychiatry population.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently and within a team of psychiatrists, nurses and other allied health professionals Strong clinical assessment of the geriatric psychiatry component of patients Provides consultation regarding complex patient care needs to nurses, physicians, and other members of the team within the Mental Health program including the Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic. Applies advances knowledge to promote patient/family and staff learning/coaching about evidence-based practice in Geriatric Psychiatry. Leads/participates in relevant hospital wide best practice initiatives related to Geriatric Psychiatry such as the Delirium Taskforce. Collaborates with current Geriatric Psychiatry Nurse to provide assessment and on-going follow up of geriatric psychiatry patients as well as further role development. Practices in a culturally sensitive manner. Expert working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Consent and Capacity issues. Good knowledge and understanding of appropriate local community resources. Excellent negotiation skills and knowledge of nuances required to facilitate discharge planning with this patient care population.
Qualifications
Halton Healthcare Services is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible.
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario Masters in Nursing preferred certification in psychiatry preferred, if not willingness to obtain in 1-2 years. 2-4 years of recent experience functioning in a crisis or consultation role in a general hospital or specialized psychiatric facility. Excellent knowledge of Mental Health Legislation. Excellent knowledge of community agencies and referral resources. Community experience in Mental Health considered an asset. Excellent knowledge of the de-escalation theory and technique. Keen awareness of cultural sensitivities. Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position Satisfactory employment and attendance record
