The Role

Reporting to the Dean of LLPA, this position provides leadership to the ENGU discipline, facilitating the operation, planning and development of the ENGU Department by acting as a spokesperson for ENGU (such as on committees or via correspondence) and by being an advocate for the needs of ENGU learners. Responsibilities The coordinator is responsible for the daily running of the ENGU Department. The following are some of the daily responsibilities of the coordinator: The coordinator arranges and conducts departmental meetings; ensures that the Department has representation on internal and external committees; communicates departmental concerns to the Dean. The coordinator reviews the Education Plan with the Dean; prepares the timetable of the Department’s offerings to meet student needs; monitors enrolment; and interprets program statistics (e.g., FTE production). The coordinator facilitates allocation of work by faculty according to college and departmental practice. In collaboration with departmental colleagues, they facilitate ongoing mentoring and development opportunities for faculty. They advise prospective and current students; coordinate the processes of assessing, and support the admitting, registering, and orienting of new students. They establish and maintain working relationships with other College units. To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need A Master’s degree in English, or equivalent; The successful candidate will be a current regular post-probationary or probationary ENGU faculty member with several years of experience teaching in a post-secondary environment; Effective interpersonal communication skills; A demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet targets and deadlines; Familiarity with relevant College policies, procedures and Collective Agreements; Previous successful experience coordinating programs, projects or activities in a leadership role is an asset.
