Job Description

Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is seeking a skilled and experienced Sequential Excavation Management Project Manager to oversee and execute complex excavation projects as part of the Ontario Line South initiative. As the Sequential Excavation Management Project Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of underground construction activities, aligning with OTG's commitment to excellence and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of excavation projects for the Ontario Line South.
  • Implement Sequential Excavation Management (SEM) techniques to ensure safe and controlled excavation processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to develop detailed excavation plans, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines.
  • Oversee the procurement of necessary equipment, materials, and resources for excavation activities.
  • Manage and supervise excavation crews, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Monitor and assess ground conditions, adapting excavation strategies as needed to mitigate risks and optimize project outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout all excavation phases.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including excavation logs, reports, and records of change orders.
  • Collaborate with the project management team to ensure seamless integration of excavation activities with overall project objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mega infrastructure projects, involving in early stage of project, including:
    • Site establishment with installation of acoustic shed, services installation, utilities relocation and clearance
    • Shaft or station box retaining structures with piling, anchor and shotcrete and excavation using different combination of earthwork equipment.
    • Liaise and mange multiple specialist subcontractors for above scopes.  
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground construction projects, with a focus on Sequential Excavation Management, especially with Road headers for excavation and hydraulic formwork for permanent concrete lining
  • Strong understanding of excavation techniques, ground support systems, and tunneling methods.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Proficiency in cost and production management, including weekly and monthly cost report, end of the month forecast and accrual. Providing short-term and long-term forecasts, as well as program to meet project milestone requirements
  • Has capabilities to implement, maintenance and develop project safety requirements. Built safety culture within team.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams effectively.
  • Solid knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to excavation and construction.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • P.Eng. or PMP certification is a plus.
