JOB PURPOSE

The Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation is New Brunswick’s provincial centre for neurological rehabilitation. The Registered Nurse Class A will work as part of the adult physiatry outpatient clinic, as well as the interdisciplinary team, to provide rehabilitation services to patients with complex neurological disorders.

The RNCA position involves coordination and clinical care for adult outpatients, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality patient care within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and their families while focusing on Patient and Family Centered Care.

Outpatient appointments: Participation in triage of referrals, collection of vital signs and weight, venipuncture, history-taking, education for neurogenic bladder and bowel, wound assessment, medication reconciliation, assistance during procedures.

Follow-up care: Participation in interdisciplinary team rounds and phone follow-up.

Clinic planning and coordination: Work closely with the Clinic Coordinator to organize various clinics. Complete pre-clinic screening.

QUALIFICATIONS

Active registration with NANB Current BLS certification Demonstrated teaching, communication, interpersonal and team building skills. Demonstrates knowledge and skill required to provide care to patients with the following diagnosis:Traumatic and acquired brain injury.Spinal cord injury.Progressive neurological disabilities such as MS and ALSComplex CVA Must be flexible and adapt easily in a dynamic environment. Ability to attend work on a regular basis. Ability to perform the duties of the position. Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are performed as directed:

Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with patients, families, other departments, and the multidisciplinary team. Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrates professional initiative and good judgement in the application of nursing care including strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrates adherence to legislation and Horizon Health confidentiality policy to ensure all patient, business, financial and employee information in accessed on an as need to know basis. Successful candidate must be accountable for creating a culture of safety, working as a team, communication effectively, and responding to adverse events. Successful candidate must be willing to accept change and demonstrate the ability to adapt in a changing environment. Identifies patient needs and co-operates with other staff in meeting these needs. Administers treatments and medications as ordered by medical staff. Observes, records, and evaluates patient’s progress. Provides comfortable, orderly, clean, and safe environment for patients and staff. Maintains strict confidentiality of all aspects of the work. Assists in teaching patients and subordinate staff. Partakes/attends staff meetings. Participates in committee work as required. Actively participates in the ongoing enhancement of services and care provided to patients.
