Executive Lead - Principal, Financial Audit and Related Services This role is a senior executive position within the Office of the Auditor General of B.C. (OAG), responsible for leading the Financial Audit and Related Services (FARS) portfolio. The Principal will report to the Assistant Auditor General, manage audit operations, and ensure compliance with the Financial Audit Coverage Plan (FACP) and the OAG’s strategic objectives. About the Role As Principal, you will be accountable for the effective operation of the assigned portfolio and delivery of audits, ensuring alignment with the OAG’s vision, mission, and values. Responsibilities include: Collaborate with other FARS Principals to develop the FACP for executive review. Develop resourcing and operational plans to deliver the annual FACP and other audit commitments. Provide recommendations to the FARS AAG on audit strategies, planning, and policy development. Conduct audit report presentations for ministry executives, audit and finance committees, boards, and CEOs/CFOs. Oversee Engagement Leaders on high‑risk audits and act as the Engagement Quality Reviewer for low‑risk audits. Lead quality improvement initiatives, policy recommendations, and corporate projects. Assist in annual budget development and monitor portfolio allocations. Manage portfolio human‑resource functions including recruitment, onboarding, and training. Prepare and present materials to external parties such as other legislative audit offices. Supervise staff, approve leave, and manage disciplinary processes. Job Requirements Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA, CA, or equivalent). Eligibility for licensing by CPABC. Twelve years of experience, including at least nine years post‑designation, with progressively responsible audit leadership roles. Experience leading large, complex financial statement audit projects in the public sector. Progressive project management experience covering planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring, and risk management. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, coach, and mentor a team of professionals. Strong understanding of professional standards and public administration. Proficiency in establishing collaborative relationships with senior leaders and delivering executive‑level presentations and reports. Preferences Experience with Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards. Current residence in Victoria, B.C., or willingness to relocate. Conditions Eligibility to work in Canada (Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizenship). Successful completion of B.C. public‑service security screening. Flexibility regarding changes in responsibilities and hybrid work environment. Ability to work in the office when required by the supervisor.
