Overview At Coinbase, we are building the future of internet-native payments. The x402 protocol is at the core of this mission, an open, internet-scale standard designed to make global payments as seamless as sending an email. As part of the Coinbase x402 team, you’ll help define and evolve this protocol alongside the broader open-source community, while also building the developer tools, SDKs, and payment infrastructure that bring x402 to life. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of crypto, payments, agentic commerce, and open standards, shaping how money moves on the internet for the next decade. What you’ll be doing Defining the x402 protocol standard for the internet-native payment protocol Building and maintaining x402 related products such as the x402 SDK, Payment MCP, Payment Facilitators, and onchain payment protocols Collaborating with open-source contributors to evolve the standard through GitHub discussions, issues, and PR reviews What we look for in you 6+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend development working closely with frontend engineers; crypto experience is a plus Strong experience in building scalable and secure software and SDKs Proficiency with Golang, Typescript, and Python Knowledge of Web3 technologies, stablecoins, smart contracts, and wallets Nice to haves Experience with AI and emerging AI protocol standards (MCP, A2A) Track record of building and maintaining impactful open-source projects Job #: GDBE05US *Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate your onchain experience Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility + equity eligibility + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).
