Overview We are seeking a seasoned and product-focused Senior AI Backend Engineer to join our team. In this foundational role, you will be instrumental in developing and scaling the core backend systems that power our platform. Your primary mission will be to strategically integrate AI technologies, including LLMs and embeddings, to enhance our product's capabilities and explore new frontiers. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of an AI-driven platform. You'll work at the intersection of backend engineering and applied AI, tackling complex challenges, and driving initiatives that directly impact our business growth. What You'll Do Develop Foundational Backend Systems: Architect, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems that are critical to our product's functionality and fuel business growth. Drive AI Integration: Determine and implement the best ways to incorporate LLMs, embeddings, and other AI technologies into our platform, exploring new possibilities and applying learnings to enhance product offerings. Architect Data Models: Design and implement robust data models for managing and standardizing data from diverse sources, optimizing these models to support RAG models' training and inference processes efficiently. Champion Engineering Excellence: Ensure the core functionality of our product is stable, reliable, and continuously improving. Embrace a product-focused mindset to tackle technical challenges related to quality and performance. Contribute to Team Culture: Mentor fellow engineers, champion product-focused values, and help establish and maintain standards of engineering excellence across the team. What We're Looking For 5+ years of experience building modern web applications, with a recent focus on leveraging AI/ML technologies. Strong background in backend development with proven proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, Python, or Go. Hands-on experience in AI-driven application development, including experiment setup, dataset curation, model training, offline evaluation, error analysis, deployment, and online evaluation. Experience working with SQL and RDBMS (PostgreSQL preferred). Strong software engineering practices, including coding, unit testing, code reviews, and design documentation. Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to translate complex technical concepts into business impact and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
