Overview Building Mechanical Designer role at Jacobs . Jacobs is seeking three Building Mechanical Designers excited about working on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business, with a focus on mechanical systems for municipal facilities. You’ll be at the cutting edge of efforts to bring innovation to infrastructure projects in the region. Use your design and analytical skills to lead the planning and design of mechanical (plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection) systems, primarily for water and wastewater projects, and contribute to other municipal, industrial, and institutional projects. You’ll be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of engineering tasks, gaining familiarity with client expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. You’ll provide on-site assistance during startup and coordinate work with staff and the discipline lead. Your multi-discipline team will deliver design, development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products for building HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems. Responsibilities (illustrative) Designing and drafting of plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems Preparing mechanical drawing deliverables as required Assisting with or carrying out deliverables and products such as load calculations, specifications, equipment selections, and cost estimates related to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities Coordinating with the design of other disciplines Performing field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents Drafting using CAD or 3D modeling software; preparing plans, sections, elevations, details, and construction documents for review and approval Participating in the Quality Review process with the responsible Engineer and Lead Verifier Assisting with construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and responding to client questions Working within a project team and communicating effectively Establishing design criteria in accordance with industry standards with Lead Engineers Reporting to Lead Engineer at the project level and to the discipline coordinator/manager at the discipline level What you’ll need Technical Diploma in Mechanical Systems Design + 5 years’ experience, or High School Diploma + 7 years’ experience, building mechanical systems Experience with a wide variety of HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, load calculations, and related building systems Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit Experience on multi-disciplinary projects in buildings and infrastructure Ability to read multi-disciplinary plans Self-starter with minimal supervision Excellent verbal and written English Team player with self-motivation Familiarity with local/provincial and national Building Codes, Energy Codes, Plumbing Codes, Fire Codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and SMACNA Experience implementing Client CAD/BIM Standards Preferred Qualifications AScT, PTech, or CET designation Professional and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders Delivers on commitments to project teams, consultants, and clients Experience using Revit for modeling, Navisworks and BIM 360 for coordination; Bentley MicroStation is an asset 8+ years of relevant mechanical design experience on institutional, commercial, or municipal buildings; water and wastewater facility experience is an asset Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Experience with Carrier HAP and McQuay Ductsizer; energy modeling tools (TRACE 700, eQuest, DOE-2) are assets Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) Valid driver’s license Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
