OverviewBuilding Mechanical Designer role at Jacobs. Jacobs is seeking three Building Mechanical Designers excited about working on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business, with a focus on mechanical systems for municipal facilities.You’ll be at the cutting edge of efforts to bring innovation to infrastructure projects in the region. Use your design and analytical skills to lead the planning and design of mechanical (plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection) systems, primarily for water and wastewater projects, and contribute to other municipal, industrial, and institutional projects. You’ll be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of engineering tasks, gaining familiarity with client expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. You’ll provide on-site assistance during startup and coordinate work with staff and the discipline lead. Your multi-discipline team will deliver design, development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products for building HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems.Responsibilities (illustrative)Designing and drafting of plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systemsPreparing mechanical drawing deliverables as requiredAssisting with or carrying out deliverables and products such as load calculations, specifications, equipment selections, and cost estimates related to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilitiesCoordinating with the design of other disciplinesPerforming field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documentsDrafting using CAD or 3D modeling software; preparing plans, sections, elevations, details, and construction documents for review and approvalParticipating in the Quality Review process with the responsible Engineer and Lead VerifierAssisting with construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and responding to client questionsWorking within a project team and communicating effectivelyEstablishing design criteria in accordance with industry standards with Lead EngineersReporting to Lead Engineer at the project level and to the discipline coordinator/manager at the discipline levelWhat you’ll needTechnical Diploma in Mechanical Systems Design + 5 years’ experience, or High School Diploma + 7 years’ experience, building mechanical systemsExperience with a wide variety of HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, load calculations, and related building systemsProficiency in AutoCAD and RevitExperience on multi-disciplinary projects in buildings and infrastructureAbility to read multi-disciplinary plansSelf-starter with minimal supervisionExcellent verbal and written EnglishTeam player with self-motivationFamiliarity with local/provincial and national Building Codes, Energy Codes, Plumbing Codes, Fire Codes, ASHRAE, NFPA, and SMACNAExperience implementing Client CAD/BIM StandardsPreferred QualificationsAScT, PTech, or CET designationProfessional and timely communication with internal and external stakeholdersDelivers on commitments to project teams, consultants, and clientsExperience using Revit for modeling, Navisworks and BIM 360 for coordination; Bentley MicroStation is an asset8+ years of relevant mechanical design experience on institutional, commercial, or municipal buildings; water and wastewater facility experience is an assetAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience with Carrier HAP and McQuay Ductsizer; energy modeling tools (TRACE 700, eQuest, DOE-2) are assetsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)Valid driver’s licenseLocation: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
