Overview The Department of Psychiatry in Nanaimo is seeking a part-time General Psychiatrist to provide services with the Complex Care Housing Team (CCH). The successful candidate will be a member of and collaborate with the CCH team, delivering psychiatric services for at least 44 weeks per year, averaging about 7.5 hours per week (approximately 330 hours per year), which is about 0.2 FTE. Hours may vary week to week, but the psychiatrist will manage their schedule to ensure continuity of care for CCH patients throughout the year. The patient population is based in Nanaimo and includes up to 30 adults who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, with potential co-morbidities such as mental health issues, substance use, or chronic medical conditions. The primary goals are psychiatric and medical stabilization and supporting individuals in maintaining housing. Responsibilities Provide psychiatric services within a community-based in-reach team, in collaboration with other physicians and health professionals (e.g., addiction medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, and nurses). Conduct psychiatric assessments, case formulation, and medication management for a full range of psychiatric disorders and comorbidities, including severe substance use disorders. Work on-site at Island Health facilities or Nanaimo community supportive housing sites and collaborate with community-based external agencies and stakeholders. Attend departmental and multidisciplinary meetings as part of administrative duties. Train medical students and residents as Island Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Island Medical Program (clinical appointment application required). On-call responsibility is mandatory under a Departmental MOCAP contract, averaging one weekend day every 4–6 weeks.
