Overview Department of Psychiatry at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) with Island Health invites a Psychiatrist to deliver ambulatory and outreach care through Assertive Community Treatment (ACT). Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and diagnoses for clients. Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, adjusting treatment plans as needed. Provide ongoing medication management and psychoeducation to clients and families. Collaborate with the ACT team to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each client’s needs. Offer crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed. Provide most clinical care through outreach, addressing clients’ difficulty attending clinic appointments. Participate in daily or weekly ACT team meetings, review cases, and contribute to shared decision‑making. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including social workers, nurses, case managers, rehab workers, and mental health support workers. Provide clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise to ensure high‑quality care. Engage clients in community settings (homes, shelters, etc.) to deliver care in the least restrictive environment. Support clients in accessing health services, housing, employment, and social support resources. Advocate for clients’ rights and work to reduce stigma related to mental illness. Maintain accurate and current clinical records and documentation. Ensure adherence to treatment plans. Remain current on best practices and pursue ongoing professional development.
