THIS IS A 12-MONTH FIXED-TERM, FULL-TIME POSITION (WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION OR PERMANENCY) THIS POSITION IS BASED IN KENSINGTON THE APPLICATION CLOSING DATE HAS BEEN EXTENDED APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION CLOSE AT MIDDAY ON TUESDAY, 6 JANUARY 2026 The Office of Information Management (OIM) is responsible for information management and related information and communication technology (IT) to enable the Department to achieve its strategic, tactical and operational goals through the right IT governance and correct information and technology controls. We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Cartographic Officer to join our team. The Senior Cartographic Officer : Under general direction, is responsible for compiling maps, map design and layout and map production (using a range of software packages) to support the departments business needs. Produces complex information to publication standard as diagrams, charts and tables, as well as in the form of conventional maps. Liaises with internal, external and private clients for the preparation, compilation and production of maps and detailed geographical information. In this role, you will demonstrate to help drive positive change. Selection Criteria Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total. Experience working in a complex, varied and geographically distributed information and related technology (IT) public sector environment or similar, demonstrating ability to explore various possibilities and support in generating innovative open standards-based solutions relating to digital mapping and / or geographical information systems. Demonstrated ability to apply lateral and creative thinking to contribute ideas and solutions for a complex, varied and geographically distributed environment, including having knowledge of contemporary issues related to best practice principles, methods and process, and a demonstrated ability to apply these in a diverse corporate environment. Well-developed analytical ability and problem-solving skills in the collection and manipulation of spatial information. Demonstrated ability to interpret data, graphical representations and symbols to produce conventional and digital maps quickly and effectively; including an eye for layout and design, good spatial awareness and colour vision.
