Brandon, Canada Nipawin Full time

OVERVIEW OF FFBC Faith Fellowship Baptist Church (FFBC) is a member of the FEBC (Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches) and we’ve had a ministry in Brandon MB for 50 years. We exist to glorify the Lord as we seek to make obedient and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, as evidenced by our submission to the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) and the Great Commandments (Matt. 22:37-40). We are a growing church family seeking a full‑time Associate Pastor of Discipleship & Family Ministries to provide pastoral leadership for shepherding, training and discipling young adults and a growing number of young families, to grow in their faith and to reach out to the same demographic in the Brandon community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our multicultural congregation has experienced significant growth and change in the past three years. We are currently providing two services for our average attendance of 300‑320. Our church is made up of approximately 140 children and teens, over 90 senior adults and a growing number of young adults and young families. Brandon has over 7,500 full‑time university and community college students. We are prayerfully seeking an Associate Pastor who is capable, qualified and willing to be responsible to guide, direct and disciple our adult ministries, to potentially create an effective college and university outreach, and to closely partner with our adult volunteers and church leadership in these ministries. ACCOUNTABILITY The Associate Pastor is supervised by and works in close relationship with the Senior Pastor, and both are directly accountable to the church leadership team. The Senior Pastor and other church pastors and staff are committed to a weekly time together for prayer, planning, training and encouragement. We are currently led by pastors and deacons. However, we are transitioning to an Elder led leadership that consists of both paid and unpaid elders. POSITION SUMMARY The Associate Pastor is a full‑time staff member of FFBC who is responsible for providing oversight and leadership development, discipleship and mentoring strategies for our church family. This position requires someone who can motivate other to engage in service, who is gifted in team building with adult volunteers and who can ultimately lead and be an example of what it means to be an authentic faithful follower of Jesus Christ. We recognize the importance of establishing strong Christian homes and godly leadership in the home, which is under spiritual attack in our day. We believe there is constant need for any and every service and ministry in the local church to be built on the solid foundation of the Word of God and prayer. The Associate Pastoral candidate for FFBC must complete the FEBC Pastoral Profile (located on our website) which includes your salvation testimony, references and call to ministry, and be in agreement with the complete doctrinal statement of FFBC. The bylaws are currently being revised. SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work with other church leadership in the development and implementation of a vision and values for our family‑oriented ministries, focusing on the age group of 30‑55, in agreement with the values and vision of FFBC. Must have a genuine love for people of all ages, a desire to minister to and disciple new believers, adult volunteers and church families, with a desire to reach and disciple the unsaved for Christ. Must have a willingness to open up your own home for hospitality and ministry opportunities. Provide leadership and oversight of our small group and adult teaching ministries, including training of small group leaders, one‑on‑one mentoring and other disciplining opportunities. Work with the Sr. Pastor and leadership for outreach and discipleship strategies for our church family and develop our current CARE ministry to better shepherd our family and faith communities throughout the city and region. Be involved in the overall regular ministries of the church as gifted and able, including Sunday worship services, baptisms, weddings, funerals, and communion, among other services and outreaches, with the Sr. Pastor and church leadership. Expected to be in attendance at regularly‑held meetings of the church and church leadership, and to see this Pastoral position as a God‑given calling not only a job. EXPECTATIONS OF DUTIES SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP Has a clear salvation testimony, a clear pastoral calling to this ministry, evidence of spiritual growth and an ever‑growing desire for spiritual maturity. Able to prepare and facilitate effective family events that build both Christian community and Godly character and allow faith to be shared in a safe environment. Has the spiritual giftedness to effectively preach, communicate and exemplify a committed Christ‑centered life to encourage our church people to grow in appreciation of their faith, their Christian friends and their church faith community. Must be able to teach and discipline our people in Biblical and spiritual leadership primarily through the accurate, faithful and prayerful teaching of God’s Word. A willingness to work with other Committees in developing short‑term mission experiences for our people both locally and globally would be a valuable benefit. ADMINISTRATION Be effective in developing, organizing and promoting all weekly or regular discipleship, family‑oriented and outreach events through all appropriate and available means. Work with our church committees designed and assigned to oversee various over‑all church ministries such as our Family Camp Committee, “Summers in the Park” for both services and lunch days, and other summer outreach programs and “Family Days” activities. Recruit, train and equip the necessary leadership, primarily in ministries related to our homes and families and student outreach efforts, in helping people find their most effective place of service based on individual giftedness and abilities. The Associate Pastor will be provided a personal office for regular, daily work, and he will participate in the overall administrative and planning efforts along with the rest of the church leadership in their regular meetings, and Sunday services. SKILLS FOR THE POSITION OF ASSOCIATE PASTOR A deep love for the Lord Jesus, and a personal commitment to daily time in prayer and in the study of God’s Word. A servant’s heart with the qualifications found in Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Tim. 3:1-7: demonstrating a spirit of hospitality, a willingness to forgive, to reconcile and be humble. An ability to empower and delegate appropriate tasks to others, having strong administrative and communication skills. Three to four years with a Bible graduate degree is preferred, from an approved Bible school with a willingness for further education and training as opportunity arises. Missionary or evangelical association work and soundness in theology with a proven track record in pastoral ministry (such as discipleship, evangelism and leadership skills) may offset the need for formal training. Our preferred candidate will have Pastoral experience with a positive church ministry track‑record and a gifting to clearly, accurately and faithfully preach and teach the Word of God, as the approved candidate will be included in the regular preaching schedule. Works well with a team. A self‑motivated individual who is creative, energetic, able to solve problems, and flexible to meet ministry needs and changes in both people and scheduling as they arise. Someone who can work independently with limited oversight. Ability to resolve conflict and teach others to do the same. Able to assist in counseling with patience and a sense of humor. Because we are a multicultural church family, and a multilingual city, being skilled in a second language, though not required, would be helpful. For example, we have a growing ministry and outreach to the Chinese (Mandarin) community in Brandon, and we are willing to create new “language group ministries” as we’re enabled. A candidate’s wife must be a Godly woman who is willing and eager to be a pastor’s wife, be a regular attendee in our services and ministries (as able), who also has a clear Christian salvation testimony and is walking faithfully with Christ. Must be willing to have a six month and then on‑going yearly evaluations of employment by the Sr. Pastor and church leadership, for aid in personal and professional development. A minimum 5‑7 year commitment is recommended to begin the position (to be evaluated as stated). Notes Must be willing and able to work a full‑time work week of 40‑45 hours minimum. Flexibility is given when the church calendar requires availability at night or other extended working hours. Salary, scheduled days off, vacations, opportunities for personal and professional development and other terms of employment to be discussed and confirmed during the interview process. Must have a MB Criminal Record check completed and a MB Child Abuse Registry check done.
