The team focuses on Home & Auto Insurance and product development to address industry trends and client needs. What the Role Entails Recognized as the product expert, the Senior Product Specialist provides product expertise and knowledge on coverages, regulatory and industry environments. They lead in developing and maintaining products and coverages to positively affect portfolio profitability. They maintain and create underwriting and risk selection rules across all portfolios. They are responsible for product design and overseeing wordings development. They provide product expertise to all programs and initiatives and Manufacturing projects and implementations. Responsibilities Research, evaluate and author underwriting rules and risk selection guidelines. Author supporting reference material as appropriate. Proactively monitor external activities to identify potential legal/regulatory impacts and emerging issues that could affect products and profitability (regulatory changes, claims issues, product bulletins). Design products and oversee development and maintenance of base policy wordings and forms across companies in line with strategic objectives and sustainability vision. Author and secure signoff of wordings for compliance with group standards. Liaise with Reinsurance to ensure reinsurance arrangements are in place to manage risk exposure and profitability. Author underwriting guidelines for use in treaty and facultative reinsurance. Provide leadership and SME guidance to project teams implementing changes affecting product accountabilities; act as SME on product accountabilities in policy administration system development and maintenance. Collaborate with Communications and Training teams to provide background information and content for policy wordings, forms, questionnaires, references and training materials; ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with needs of different areas. Support portfolio profitability by analyzing, identifying and quantifying potential solutions to identified problems/issues. Direct involvement in portfolio and broker acquisitions; support due diligence and assess portfolio quality; make recommendations regarding products for portfolio conversion. Provide product subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders (Public Affairs, Government Relations, Ombudsman, regulators) and participate in forming company responses to governments. How You Will Succeed Innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies; focus on client needs. Critical thinking to identify assumptions, evaluate arguments, and propose solutions. Strong communication to convey messages and explore diverse viewpoints. Ability to build trusting relationships and guide colleague development. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of successful PL underwriting experience (preferred). Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and/or FCIP with a major in Underwriting or Risk Management (preferred). University degree (Business, Economics, Mathematics preferred) or equivalent experience. Expert knowledge of PL products, policy wordings, references and training materials, Insurance Acts and provincial legislation/requirements. Proficiency in English is essential; the role primarily works with non-francophone groups and teams outside Québec; essential non-French duties not assignable to adjacent/other team members.
