Cost Engineering Team: Software Engineer II The engineer is responsible for driving financial visibility, cost efficiency, and long‑term economic sustainability across our cloud infrastructure. We blend engineering, data analysis, and financial insight to ensure that every technical decision upholds availability while preserving cost efficiency. What You'll Do With the support of your team’s tech lead and manager, break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work. Support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade‑offs. Maintain the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on‑call efforts. Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process. What We Look For 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer. Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems with proficiency in Python or Kotlin. Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Experience building out cost visibility via tagging and creating cost savings opportunities via cost analysis. Ability to take a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, and execute on it by writing clear, well‑tested, and extensible code. Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback to other engineers through code reviews. Demonstrated ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with the global engineering team. Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Pay & Equity Pay Grade: LEquity Grade: 5 Base pay range per year: $125,000 - $175,000. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). Employees may also be eligible for equity rewards offered by the parent company. Remote Work Affirm is a remote‑first company. The majority of our roles are remote and you can work almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some proximal roles have flexibility to work remotely but may occasionally be required to work out of the assigned office. A limited number of roles remain office‑based due to the nature of their job responsibilities.
