Overview Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Loans Platform) – Affirm, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer for the Loans Platform team, responsible for Affirm’s core loans products. You will guide the team to scale the product and add features to reach more consumers. Join us as we build a beloved, lasting financial services brand predicated on honesty and trust. What You'll Do Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and support delivery. Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions considering risks and trade-offs. Proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them. Support operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting keep the lights on and on-call efforts. Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks. Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example. What We Look For 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin. Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Experience defining a technical plan for delivery of a significant feature or component with elegant, simple, extensible design; writing high quality code. Ability to make significant changes in a large code base and develop tools and practices to do so safely. Strong ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team. Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Benefits and Details Base pay range per year: CAD 150,000 - 200,000. Pay Grade: N; Equity Grade: 6. Base pay is part of total compensation and may include stipends, and benefits (including subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for dependents). Eligible for equity rewards. Affirm is remote-first; some roles may require occasional office work.
