Senior Waterway Planning Engineer Grade: EG4 | Employment Type: Regular/full-time | Department: Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management, Engineering & Technical Services | Location: Winnipeg, MB | Salary: EG4 $95,303.00 – $124,732.00 per year | Administration: Advertisement Number 44658 | Closing Date: December 15, 2025 About the Position The Hydrologic Forecasting & Water Management Branch is seeking a Senior Waterway Planning Engineer to lead and deliver engineering planning work for flood mitigation projects and to manage temporary flood mitigation contracts. The branch produces accurate hydrologic forecasts, coordinates flood responses, assists in operating provincial water‑related infrastructure for flood and drought mitigation, and conducts ice jam mitigation programs and community flood protection works. Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver engineering planning for flood mitigation projects. Manage temporary flood mitigation contracts. Produce hydrologic forecasts and information to the public. Coordinate flood responses and assist in operations of water‑related infrastructure. Conduct ice jam mitigation programs, community flood protection works, and flood mitigation studies. Provide hydrological analysis and administer designated flood areas. Qualifications – Essential Extensive project management experience, including managing flood mitigation contracts, budgets, and ensuring timely delivery. Extensive hydraulic design, modeling, water management studies, and expert advice on problem assessment, infrastructure options, and economic viability. Technical review experience with hydraulic and geotechnical principles. Working knowledge of hydraulic theories, riverbank stabilization design, slope stability, erosion protection, and flood routing schemes. Ability to work independently and in a team. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, decision‑making, verbal, and written communication skills. Conditions of Employment Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering. Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM). Willingness and ability to travel within Manitoba. Ability to work outdoors in rough terrain during extreme weather conditions.
