The Delores D. Echum Composite School invites applications for a qualified teacher to commence employment for the 2024/2025 school year.
We are a First Nations school located in Northern Ontario James Bay, with an enrollment of 130+ students in Grades 7-12. A Cree community with a population of 3000+ that is accessible by river boat and winter road. We offer a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, a travel and relocation allowance, and a fully furnished housing unit with
subsidized rent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current registration and in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
• Minimum Bachelor of Education Degree
• Qualifications in Secondary English/Social Sciences
REQUIREMENTS/ABILITIES:
• Submit cover letter with application package
• Submit copies of all credentials, if not registered with OCT
• Submit a current Canadian Police Information Centre(CPIC) with Vulnerable Sector Check or proof of application
• Submit two most recent work references and one personal character reference to resume with permission to contact
• First Aid and CPR certification or willing to obtain within a reasonable period
• Strong communication skills are required for working with students, parents, staff members and consultants
• Ability to work as a member of a professional team and a willingness to participate in the school learning philosophy
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities
• Ability to deliver appropriate Individual Education Plans within the classroom
• A willingness to be flexible in teaching assignments
• A willingness to live in an isolated community and participate as a member of the community
• Knowledge and sensitivity to the traditions and aspirations of First Nations people and experience in working in a multicultural setting
Start Date: Late August 2024
Salary: Up to $102,261 /annually, based on OSSTF/QECO rating
Duration: Permanent position, with probation period of 1 or 2 years based on experience
