Duties The Executive Director, Land, is a senior strategic leader within the Manitoba Indigenous Reconciliation Secretariat, responsible for shaping and implementing government-wide reconciliation strategies centered on land. This role requires deep expertise in Indigenous rights, governance, and resource management, combined with political acumen and relationship‑building skills to navigate multi‑jurisdictional and cross‑cultural complexities. The Executive Director influences policy, drives operational excellence, and fosters partnerships that support the revitalization of Indigenous Nationhood. The Executive Director will lead a team that supports transformational, multi‑year, whole-of‑government policies, setting the strategic and operational direction of Indigenous engagement and reconciliation approaches, as well as relationship‑based issues management related to Indigenous people. This scope and influence extend across the Secretariat to all other departments, external organisations, Indigenous governments, Indigenous political advocacy groups, Indigenous businesses and organisations, throughout the entire province, ultimately in support of the revitalization and reclamation of Indigenous Nationhood. The Executive Director will support the Assistant Deputy Minister by providing strategic options, comprehensive policy advice and recommendations related to lands using internal and external expertise. Qualifications Post‑secondary degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Indigenous studies, social sciences, economics, resource management, law and/or a professional designation with relevant experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. Senior leadership experience in a wide range of Indigenous‑government relations and reconciliation contexts such as policy and program development, and community engagement. Proven ability as an effective and strategic leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop for the future. Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change. Senior management experience with responsibility for human and financial resources, and experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adjust communication style to diverse audiences and manage complex, high‑level internal and external stakeholder relationships. Excellent political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues. Experience providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of legislation, policies, and programmes, ensuring adaptability and responsiveness to evolving needs. Experience building strong relationships with Indigenous peoples and implementing the spirit and intent of reconciliation. Commitment to supporting the reclamation and revitalization of Indigenous Nationhood through advancements in its four key pillars: land, culture, language and people.
