The ERA is seeking a passionate professional to join us on a 12 month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension and/or permanency as Assistant Director Compliance and Enforcement in the Energy Markets Division. Western Australia’s electricity sector is undergoing rapid changes as it decarbonises. The ERA plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market during this transition, including monitoring compliance and responding to non‑compliance and inappropriate market conduct. This position provides strategic leadership and specialist expertise in managing and delivering the ERA’s compliance and enforcement program for the ERA’s Wholesale Electricity Market and other energy market related functions. This includes setting compliance priorities and assisting in the development of best practices in compliance and enforcement. As Assistant Director, you will lead and coordinate the Division’s compliance and enforcement activities, working collaboratively with other Assistant Directors and across the Energy Markets Division. You will oversee end‑to‑end case management, including triage and assessment of potential breaches, evidence gathering and analysis, engagement with market participants, and preparation of recommendations for senior management, Division’s Executive Director, and the ERA’s Governing Body. You will also contribute to continuous improvement of the regulatory framework and the ERA’s compliance toolkit by identifying trends and systematic issues, recommending practical reforms, and strengthening guidance and communications to support high levels of compliance. Your work will help ensure energy markets operate efficiently, transparently, and in the public interest — at a time when the sector is undergoing a historic and vital transition. Managing a team of five employees, you will be responsible for mentoring and coaching them to achieve high performance outcomes while fostering a supportive and growth‑oriented culture. Ideal candidates will bring demonstrated experience leading project teams on highly complex, high risk, and sensitive policy and regulatory issues. This includes strong judgement with ability to provide clear, practical advice and recommendations. They should have demonstrated experience in policy formulation and strategy development, as well as in managing and enhancing stakeholder relationships in a regulatory or similar environment.
