As an Area Manager, you will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of high-quality traffic control services. This role involves maintaining traffic control operations, ensuring productivity, efficiency, safety, supervising field staff, and developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients and customers. Coordination and Liaison: Collaborate with the Operations Manager (OM) and General Manager (GM), Dispatch, Traffic Support Services, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to coordinate schedules, distribute work efficiently, and address relief needs. Manage and develop client relationships in partnership with the OM, GM, and Director of Traffic Services. Team Management: Supervise and direct traffic employees in Dispatch, Fleet, and on-site requirements; ensure field staff comply with regulations, company standards, and policies through education and training. Client Communication: Address the assigned portfolio of clients and employee inquiries via phone and email, including staffing, safety concerns, and complaints; investigate and address complaints from clients, the public, and employees, reporting major incidents in collaboration with Human Resources and involving the employee’s union representative where applicable. Resource Management: Collaborate with Fleet, Rentals and Facilities to maintain inventory and supply of fleet vehicles for new LCTs; analyze field staff utilization and address non-supply issues; assist HR, OM, GM, and Director with manpower forecasting, planning, and deployment; attend scheduled meetings. HR and Safety Compliance: Work with HR on recruiting, retention, labor relations, and compliance with collective agreements; ensure compliance with health and safety policies in collaboration with OHS. Additional Responsibilities: Unique reporting for assigned client groups; site visits for contractor consultations; annual goal setting in support of the company's values, growth, and personal targets. What we need from you Construction industry experience preferred. Previous traffic control experience is considered an asset. Minimum 2 years construction management experience required, or equivalent work experience. Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task and effectively meet deadlines. Experience in addressing conduct and performance issues with geographically dispersed field employees. Well versed in all safety regulations as it relates to traffic management, its service, and facility. Valid WorkSafeBC Traffic Control Person ticket considered an asset. Where/When you will be working The position is set to 40 hours per week. During critical project phases, the position will be required to work outside normal business hours to ensure project timelines are met. The successful candidate shall also be expected to move shifts around in order to see clients and employees who work shifts outside of regular business hours. Why Universal Group?
