Posting ID: 4722 Department: Public Works Division: Development Services Pay Range: 1st Term – $20.612nd Term – $21.643rd Term – $22.724th Term – $23.86 Job Type: Student Contract Duration: May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026 Hours of Work: 35 hours per week Work Location: Halton Regional Centre – 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville (Office of the Chair) Employee Group: OCT Posting Date: December 16, 2025 Application Deadline: January 6, 2026 Job Summary This role supports the Planning team by reviewing applications and preparing reports on a scope of interests including, but not limited to: water and wastewater infrastructure, regional transportation systems, waste collection and source water protection. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of development planning and engineering professionals. Duties & Responsibilities Work as part of a cross‑divisional and departmental team of development planning, engineering and other professionals involved in ensuring regional interests are identified and addressed in relation to development applications. Assist the development review planners in the review and preparation of comments on pre‑consultation and formal development applications. Leverage aptitude and initiative to take on increasing levels of responsibility. Lead or assist in circulating, reviewing, preparing comments and resolving conditions on development applications such as Niagara Escarpment Commission Development Permits, Site Plans, Minor Variances and Consents. Conduct screening reviews of regional policies and requirements as input to responding to inquiries and pre‑consultations. Support the development review planners in managing their development application portfolios. Attend meetings with other regional departments and local municipalities when required. Support data quality control and software update initiatives to the region's development tracking system. Assist in process improvement projects. Conduct research on current development plans and other topics for planners. Collect, analyze and compile information and data for special projects. Undertake other supportive duties as required. Skills & Qualifications (Essential) Enrolled in an accredited university planning program or related university or college program. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and GIS software. Preferred Related previous work experience in a municipal planning environment, planning consultant or land developer. Knowledge of applicable planning legislation and the development process. Student membership or eligibility for membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) considered an asset. Working / Employment Conditions Travel within Halton Region may be required. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and be able to provide a copy of their driver’s license by the first day of employment.
