Purpose The Medical Director is responsible for medical and scientific leadership for the J&J Neuroscience TA Strategy, including for all in‑line and pipeline assets. The role provides evidenced‑based scientific expertise to internal and external partners for all assets in the TA, delegating responsibility to the Associate Medical Director and/or Scientific Advisor as appropriate. The Medical Director is accountable for the Integrated Evidence Generation Process (IEGP) in collaboration with the therapeutic area team and in direct communication with the global organization. They lead the team responsible for the National Medical Education and Evidence Communication/ Dissemination plans, work closely with external HCPs/sites to ensure seamless integration of the assets into the health care system, and lead, manage, and coach a team that could include an Associate Medical Director, Scientific Advisor, National Medical Education Manager and Medical Communications lead. They provide scientific strategic leadership to the field medical team and lead the Medical Integrated Team. The Medical Director co‑leads the cross‑functional Patient Value Team and the development/execution of the cross‑functional Business Plan and associated operational budget. They also contribute to global/regional strategic planning through representation on teams such as the Worldwide Medical Affairs Strategy Team and Study Publication Team. You Will Be Responsible For Accountable to develop and deploy the medical strategy for the TA in alignment with internal J&J Innovative Medicine (JJIM) stakeholders and external physicians and sites Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders as co‑lead of the cross‑functional TA business team to align on portfolio strategy Ensure integration of TA portfolio strategy across internal stakeholders on the brand team Identify opportunities to gather relevant information via Scientific Advisory Boards, including strategic development and tactical execution of these activities Lead the Launch Readiness Process for assets in the pipeline. Pre‑launch medical activities including advisory boards, congress activities, coordination of regional activity Actively represent Canada on global teams and liaise with multiple global partners to provide expertise and to ensure Canadian needs are met Lead and partner in interactions with key individual stakeholders to provide input and decision‑making into short, medium, and long‑range solutions to ensure appropriate data generation and data communication strategies Develop and maintain relationships with external investigators and opinion leaders involved in the delivery of TA care or engaged in TA studies Identify data gaps for each product within the respective disorder areas and develop a Data Generation Plan; present data gaps to Global team and actively participate in the research approval process Develop, conduct and manage clinical protocols of high scientific standard in support of local initiatives Champion Investigator Initiated Studies to meet Canadian needs & oversight of final deliverables Development and execution of publication strategy Key partner in company‑sponsored studies – develop strategy, protocol and hypotheses for phase 4 clinical trials, aid in the identification of sites Secure required resources to execute on the TA medical plan Lead, manage and develop a team that includes Associate Medical Director, Scientific Advisors, National Medical Education Manager and Medical Communications Lead Hire strong individuals into the team, manage performance, manage team operational budget Champion development of team members Provide strategic leadership and indirect coaching to field medical team Lead Medical Integrated Team, ensuring high standard for Medical Education and Medical Communications plans Maintain up‑to‑date scientific expertise with regular attendance at key scientific/clinical/economic conferences, training sessions and preceptorships Qualifications / Requirements PhD or MD preferred; PharmD or MSc at a minimum, combined with experience considered A minimum of 8 years of experience, including in a medical/scientific function in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry required Demonstrated experience with direct people leadership required Ability to build and develop effective people and teams Experience/knowledge in neuroscience is an asset Experience related to Medical Education and/or Medical Communications is an asset Strong knowledge of GCP, IMC code and Healthcare Compliance policies and procedures, familiarity with working in an environment guided by SOPs, solid knowledge of local regulatory requirements Strategic thinking and a positive track record of flawless execution Proven ability to effectively communicate information to KOLs, as well as non‑experts Ability to put data into perspective and communicate it concisely Demonstrated critical thinking, strong project management skills and ability to impact decision making with relevant partners Prioritization skills and big picture orientation Scientific & Business acumen Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multitask and follow through Experience developing and/or executing product strategy Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to effectively observe, assess and mentor others on communicating complex technical, scientific or medical information to a broad audience Strong leadership capabilities and excellent interpersonal skills Proven track record developing, presenting and publishing clinical studies Bilingual English and French is preferred Travel estimated to be 20% of time both internationally and in market This position is located at the 19 Green Belt Drive Toronto home office and follows a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remotely per week As guided by Our Credo, Johnson & Johnson is responsible to our employees who work with us throughout the world.
