Responsibilities Leads the development and implementation of a strategic Canadian government engagement strategy in support of our overall government affairs and advocacy objectives, working closely with various stakeholders across the Bank, particularly in Public Affairs across regional hubs and business lines. Implementation of the plan will include liaising and speaking directly with elected and unelected government officials and other relevant stakeholders and supporting engagement of senior executives. Communicates emerging issues or opportunities to internal stakeholders and identifies timely solutions and policy advice, where applicable. Actively solicits input from colleagues and other internal groups to provide advice, resources and insights to senior executives as they look to achieve their public policy and advocacy objectives across Canada. Adapts to shifting business and/or government priorities and looks for opportunities to engage government stakeholders with relevant and timely information, while maintaining focus on key objectives. Manages and supports government requests or complaints and ensures timely responses and engagement where necessary. Manages and maintains lobbying policies/regulatory obligations in various jurisdictions. Contributes to the effective functioning of the Global Corporate Affairs team by fostering effective working relationships across the function and creating a collaborative culture based on transparency, enterprise-wide thinking, and innovation. Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of the respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment. Primary Manager Vice President, Government Affairs Dimensions The role is based in Toronto. The role operates under the direction of the Vice President, Government Affairs. The incumbent works closely with other members of the Government Affairs team, and other senior executives across business lines, especially the Group Head of Canadian Banking. The role requires the ability to think and influence strategically in order to integrate public policy considerations into the Bank’s goals and recognize potential issues as a result. The role must build and leverage strategic relationships both internally and externally with relevant stakeholders. Primary stakeholders include government (both political and government officials) as well as regulators, industry associations and relevant stakeholders in Canadian provinces and municipalities of interest. The role requires demonstrated leadership skills, independence and performing highly complex assignments, often under pressure and in ambiguous circumstances. The incumbent must understand public policy and regulatory issues pertaining to the financial services sector. Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? Minimum 7 years experience (or equivalent) in government affairs Bilingual (French and English) considered an asset Ability to provide strong support to multiple and diverse groups Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills Strong project management skills, ability to work independently, manage a very high level of volume, and meet tight deadlines Knowledge of the financial services sector or regulated industries is an asset Working Conditions Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
