Strathcona’s operations, infrastructure and land position are focused in Alberta and Saskatchewan. We are seeking an experienced Chief Power Engineer to join our Lloydminster Thermal Business Unit. The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate operational activities to ensure specific tasks are performed correctly, and in accordance with company policies and safety standards. The Chief Power Engineer will ensure that the plant meets TSASK requirements as a First Class rated power generating facility, offering daily leadership and mentorship focused on operational and safety excellence. The Chief Power Engineer will also support Strathcona’s Management of Change, Integrity and Safety programs. Key Responsibilities Ensure compliance with, and commitment to, Strathcona’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, regulatory requirements, and practices. Ensure Chief Power Engineer duties are carried out in accordance with regulations. Oversee the safe, efficient and consistent operation and maintenance of equipment and processes. Foster continuous improvement and development of the Operations team on-site. Monitor the effectiveness of preventative and predictive maintenance, corrosion mitigation and asset integrity programs to ensure continuous improvement of assets. Develop and implement initiatives and action plans to continually improve service delivery, cost and efficiency. Develop and steward area operating budgets, including implementation of cost controls and management of third‑party expenditures. Act as a key liaison for regulatory relations as required. Assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory filing and reporting requirements. Serve as the accountable owner for Site Specific Procedures and ensure that the procedures are understood and complied with on a consistent basis. Ensure all fired, OPPSD systems and pressure equipment comply with TSASK legislation and current engineering standards. Collaborate with Corporate Asset Integrity group to manage the site's Owner User Program. Oversee shift scheduling to ensure appropriate area coverage. Plan, manage, direct and coordinate the operational and strategic activities of the business unit. Support the training and competency program. Manage and take accountability for the Car Seal Program at site. Ensure the Act and Regulations are accessible to Power Engineers at the facility. Provide mentorship to the Operations staff on‑site. Perform one‑on‑ones and work with staff on completing their yearly performance goals and performance review process. Support management decisions with honest and open communication with all employees. Qualifications and Skills First Class Engineer’s Certificate of Competency (TSASK) or a Second Class certification with progress toward their First Class may be considered. Minimum 10+ years of industry experience with steam generation (SAGD or CSS) with a strong operational knowledge of SAGD well pair operation, steam production, oil treating and multi‑phase pipelines. Direct experience with SAGD Operations in large production facilities, including but not limited to maintenance, automation, integrity, and processes (water treatment, production, etc.). Previous experience in a supervisory role and able to exhibit strong leadership, mentorship, and team collaboration skills. Strong organizational and communication skills, along with expertise in team building and conflict resolution skills. Support consistent operational practices across all shifts. Highly proficient in MS Office Products. Experience with supervisory control systems such as DeltaV. Familiarity with facility drawings, equipment specifications, and regulatory compliance. Work Environment Position is based in a plant setting. Availability for after‑hours facility troubleshooting support is required. Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the local area. A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract are required.
