Principal Mining Engineer

The Principal Mining Engineer provides senior technical leadership and strategic direction for mine planning, design, and execution across operating and development assets globally. This role is responsible for ensuring engineering excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with corporate objectives, while mentoring engineering teams and supporting long-term mine optimization and growth. Responsibilities: Lead and review life-of-mine (LOM) plans, mine designs, production schedules, and economic evaluations for underground and/or open pit operations. Provide expert-level input on mine methods, sequencing, ventilation concepts, ground control strategies, and material handling systems. Oversee and approve technical studies including PEA, PFS, FS, and NI 43-101 technical reports. Ensure mine designs optimize safety, productivity, cost efficiency, and resource recovery. Provide technical support to site-based engineering and operations teams to resolve complex mining challenges. Collaborate with operations, geology, geotechnical, and processing teams to ensure integrated mine plans. Support capital project development, including scope definition, engineering reviews, risk assessments, and execution strategies. Ensure compliance with Ontario mining regulations, including the Ontario Mining Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and applicable Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) requirements. Support permitting, closure planning, and regulatory submissions as required. Uphold best practices in health, safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability. Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to intermediate and senior mining engineers. Contribute to the development of engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices. Support recruitment, performance management, and professional development initiatives Contribute to long-range corporate planning, technical due diligence, and asset evaluations. Support mergers, acquisitions, and joint venture technical reviews as required. Communicate technical risks, opportunities, and recommendations clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders. Education & Certification Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (required); Master’s degree considered an asset. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for registration. Experience Minimum 15 years of progressive mining engineering experience. Extensive experience in Global mining operations and/or projects. Proven experience leading mine planning, technical studies, and multidisciplinary teams. Strong knowledge of underground and/or open pit mining methods (depending on operation). Technical Skills Advanced proficiency with mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, MineSight, Vulcan, or similar). Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, ventilation, scheduling, and cost estimation. Experience with NI 43-101 reporting and economic analysis. #J-18808-Ljbffr
