Permanent Itinerant Special Education and MLL Support Teacher

This position is available effective September 1, 2024. This 1-year position is available from the Support for Students Fund for the 2024-2025 school year.
This position reports to the the Superintendent of Education and the Principal at the assigned school(s).
The main role will be:
Responsible for planning and delivering evidence-based instruction to students from diverse linguistic backgrounds
Design and implement educational programs that support English language acquisition and academic achievement
Employ a range of instructional strategies to enhance English language acquisition, including differentiated instruction scaffolding and culturally responsive pedagogy
Support students and teachers with implementing assistive technology
Incorporate language development into various subject areas such as mathematics, science, social studies to facilitate development of content knowledge
Continuously monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional methods and strategies as necessary to meet individual student learning needs
Work in schools as assigned to support ESL and/or exceptional students
Support Student Success strategies, including data collection and reporting to enhance learning for MLL students
Help to administer the initial Step assessment
Other duties as assigned
Considered an Asset:
Experience using the Steps to English Proficiency (STEP) framework for assessing and monitoring the language acquisition and literacy development of English language learners
Knowledge of assistive technology strategies and software
Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
Flexibility and adaptability
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
