Business Development Advisor – Technology Development Advisor (TDA) Alberta Innovates invites applications for a full‑time Technology (Business) Development Advisor to join our Entrepreneurial Investments team. The role is based in rural Northern Alberta (north of Edmonton) and supports the regions of Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, and Northeast Alberta. Work hours: 36.25 hours per week with hybrid flexibility after onboarding. The position is competition #4000 and requires a 21st‑century solution mindset. Responsibilities Advising and providing expertise to clients along the Startup Commons client journey, including business plan development, financials, marketing, and sales, and customer validation testing. Coaching SMEs through their business and technology readiness journey. Developing external networks and liaising with internal and external partners to recommend aligned funding opportunities. Summarizing client due diligence for internal programs while maintaining confidentiality. Collaborating with the Regional Innovation Networks to benefit clients, primarily in Northern Alberta. Fostering existing relationships and cultivating new ones, acting as a coach and navigator for SMEs to access Alberta Innovates programs and support services. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution. 10+ years in business, management consulting or founding a technology company. 10+ years experienced in guiding SMEs in the ICT sector. 5+ years in senior management and/or business coaching. Continuing education in business and entrepreneurship. Experience growing and developing SMEs in technology commercialization. Strong account‑management experience with a creative business approach. Ability to work under tight deadlines in high‑stake executive environments. Exceptional interpersonal skills and collaborative stakeholder engagement. Demonstrated coaching, constructive feedback, and mentoring. Willingness to challenge, question, and investigate facts. Strong community network to support collaboration and synergy. Comfortable working with incomplete information and making intelligent assumptions. Travel required to attend events or meetings as needed. Why Alberta Innovates?
