My Client is seeking a skilled Metallurgical Quality Control Manager t to join our team, ensuring the highest standards of quality for raw materials supplied to mills producing aerospace superalloys and single-crystal alloys. In this critical role, you will oversee the inspection, testing, and certification of materials to meet stringent aerospace industry specifications. Your expertise in metallurgy and quality assurance will directly contribute to the reliability and performance of advanced alloys used in aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Testing & Analysis: Perform metallurgical evaluations, including chemical composition analysis and visual examination of raw materials such as nickel, titanium, cobalt, and other alloying elements.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure raw materials meet customer specifications, industry standards (e.g., AMS, ASTM, AS9100), and internal quality benchmarks for superalloy and single-crystal alloy production.
- Process Monitoring: Collaborate with production teams to monitor cutting, cleaning and testing processes, identifying deviations that could impact material integrity.
- Documentation & Certification: Prepare detailed inspection reports, certificates of conformance, and traceability documentation for all materials shipped to customers.
- Non-Conformance Management: Investigate material defects or non-conformities, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions in coordination with suppliers and internal teams.
- Equipment Oversight: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as handheld XRF analyzers
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process optimization and quality enhancement initiatives, leveraging metallurgical expertise to improve raw material consistency and performance.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in metallurgical quality control, preferably with exposure to aerospace materials, superalloys, or single-crystal alloy production.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of metallurgy and testing
- Some knowledge of aerospace material standards (AMS, ASTM, ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Familiarity with vacuum induction melting (VIM), vacuum arc remelting (VAR), or similar processes is desirable.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach to identifying material anomalies and ensuring compliance.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical reports and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Software: Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel).
Preferred Attributes
- Understanding of single-crystal alloy processing and its unique quality demands.
- Experience working with high-performance alloys (e.g., Inconel, René, or CMSX series).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining precision and accuracy.
