About the Team WPP is organized into two pillars, each grouped into pods that focus on Stripe’s public mission. The Presence pillar creates industry‑leading designs for stripe.com, educates customers, and drives business success. The Platform pillar builds the internal machinery that powers these surfaces and makes the websites fast, stable, and easy to modify. You’ll have leeway to test out‑of‑the‑box ideas while maintaining a users‑first mentality. What you’ll do As a software engineer, you will design and build scalable, configurable platforms and services that drive Stripe’s web presence. You’ll partner across functions, work on both infrastructure and product‑focused systems, and deliver direct user‑facing impact. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and performant services and systems Own technical and product problems across a wide range of systems and technologies Build and launch new capabilities and products that deliver significant value to customers Uphold high engineering standards and elevate quality and efficiency across codebases and processes Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, product, design, infrastructure, and operations Debug production issues across services at multiple levels of the stack Minimum Requirements 3+ years of experience as a backend engineer, building scalable backend infrastructure Experience delivering, extending, and maintaining large‑scale distributed systems Empathetic, collaborative, and user‑first mindset in everything you build Interest in working as a generalist across varying technologies and stacks Ability to stitch together many different services even when you haven’t worked with them before Preference for simple solutions and designs over complex ones, with good intuition for lasting and scalable systems Holistic engineering skills—from specs and documentation to implementation, testing, deployment, and measuring impact Strong cross‑functional collaboration and earning trust from colleagues at all levels Experience mentoring and growing junior engineers as a technical leader Preferred Qualifications Mentoring others and caring deeply about others’ growth Propensity to ask questions, assume good intentions, and default to transparency Inspiration for engineers that join your team Experience building pricing tooling that scales Hybrid work at Stripe This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office). Office‑assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users, balancing collaboration with flexibility. A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. We expect remote employees to work primarily from home. Stripe does not cover relocation costs. Pay and benefits The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is CA$135,200 - CA$202,800.
