Casual Healthcare Security Officer

Overview Harbour View Hospital is a long‑term care and rehabilitation care facility. The hospital is divided into two specific areas: continuing care and rehabilitation. Within the continuing care area is a unit specifically designated for war veterans. Position Details Position: Casual Security Guard Site: Harbour View Hospital Location: 22 Richard Street, Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia Hours: 0700‑1900hrs, 1900hrs‑0700hrs Payrate: $20.50 Key Responsibilities Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site. Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities. Access Control : Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas. Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations. Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures. Conflict Resolution: De‑escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally. Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns. Collaboration with Hospital Staff : Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved. Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards. Prerequisites Ability to obtain a Security License for the province of Nova Scotia. Valid Standard First Aid & CPR – Level C (from a CSA‑approved vendor). COVID‑19 vaccine: two doses. Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and a two‑step TB skin test. English (oral and written) fluency is a must. Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred. Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB). Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin’s UoF/MOAB training program prior to onboarding to meet the requirements of the position. The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a prerequisite; however, Paladin will cover all training costs with a 6‑month commitment to the position/availability. Why choose Paladin?
